Eh.. the site is alright I guess. Nothing big. Linux however, is the ****. No one should use anything but.

Pretty cool site, good to see stoned techies.

I suppose you both read Slashdot regularly too..

I used to really like it, but I find the bias (anti-Microsoft) is so ridiculous that I can't even read it anymore.

I have nothing against OSDN and open source in general, but when every post about how "M$" is horrible gets modded +5, I get a little angry.

I don't really read slashdot that much anymore. I don't really care that much about all the political claptrap and maneuvering around open source and what not. I simply enjoy using it. I stopped advocating awhile ago. Granted I am a regular user and supporter of all that is open source. I have Windows one ONE of my machines, very strictly for gaming; the rest is all linux or bsd.

I usually frequent this site a lot thought, www.everything2.com
It's a very unique and intelletctual community.

I'm glad you're not affiliated with the bias and closed eyed society that makes up slashdot..

As for your linux boxes, I only hope you use it because you like to use it, not because you like being part of another counter culture.

I used to advocate linux, and use it solely, for about 3 years.

After I worked for Microsoft for a bit, I realized a few things.
One, money is a good thing, you cant live off of people's praise.
Two, their product, from a desktop point of view, is the simplest and easiest to use. Doesn't look as good as OSX, but they market it better, and people are familiar with it, so why move?
Three, most new WMs for linux (gnome, KDE, etc..) emulates the windows intereface, so why use it when you can just use the real thing? I brought this up, and people shunned me.. they wouldn't even listen. Granted, they were the "want to be" h4x0r counter culture infidels that is the slashdot community, so I shouldn't have been surprised.

Now I don't touch linux anymore, I've been completely turned off of it. Even for servers, I use NT4.

Nothing against Open source, or the community you choose to talk to, I just see it from the other side, and for a long time now all I see is little kids talking sh!t about "M$" because they dont like companies making money (I'm sure you remember when redhat started to sell a boxed copy of their product for money, there was a huge outrage).

I'm not a MS-basher either, but I would never use Windows NT as a server... ever.

As for my box, I run Slackware 8.1 and Win2k for games, but I'm getting into native Linux gaming. I'm even porting a game called Mig Alley (WW2 flight sim) to Linux. It's far from done, as I'm the only person working on it right *now*.

Gimp.nu is just a new site, if it gets some new members it'll be sweet.
