I'm starting to use kazaa to download mp3 off the Internet.

Kazza does have some spy-where.Spy-where are systems that are installed on to your computer when you download programs like kazza.Spy-where enables that program that you downloaded to monitor your computer (watch everything you do ) and then those company's sell your info to advertisement company's who start to target you and your computer to try and sell stuff to you.Thats WY a lot of pop ups that you get on your computer seem to be things you might be interested in.

A friend of mine told me about a program called AD-AWARE 6.0 , it scans your entire computer files and lists all the different SPY-WHERE systems that have been installed on your computer and tells you which programs that you downloaded installed them.It then gives you an option to DELETE ALL SPY-WHERE.

After I ran it on my PC, over 100 different applications of SPY-WHERE were revealed. I deleted all of them.Most of the SPY-WHERE that was on my computer had been installed by a FREE program I downloaded which enhances your outlook express,it's called HOT BAR .You may be familiar with it . If you have HOT BAR on your computer I strongly advise getting rid of it !

These programs are usually a free download (to entice you ) and disguised from what there main function really is SPYING ON YOU .When you are downloading programs you always will get to a point where a USER AGREEMENT will come up,it asks you to read the agreement and then you are asked to click I ACCEPT , this is where they tell you that SPY-WHERE soft where will be installed on your computer.The problem is , these agreements are always 2 miles long and most people don't read them; So they don't realize that they are about to download a program that's mane function is to spy on you .

I advise downloading AD-AWARE 6.0 on to your PC and running it .You may be surprised to see who's watching your every move !

Thanx for the Heads-up, Jaman. 64 items quarantined on my PC after running the free AAW6.0. I use Kazaa quite a bit too, and i know that installs "bonus features" as they so eloquently put it.

There's an alternative to the regular kazaa, one without the spyware and adware. It's Kazaa Lite. There are some pop-ups when you go to the download page, but that's as far as they go. You get the same interface and network, but it's a different program connecting you to the perr to peer network. Works great, and you don't get the Save Now software....

Yes Larmer , I have switched to Kazaa lite, I didn't see anything specifically set up by them when I ran my add-aware;I'm assuming there OK .

95 % of my spyware was set up by a program called HOT BAR.

yeah, i have kazaa lite too. oh, and isnt it SPY-WEAR? dont jump all over me if im wrong, thats just what i previously assumed.

Yes, it is spy-ware. If you are interested and deleting all of the spy ware on your computer go to www.download.com and search for spybot and download it. It will find everything and also delete it for you free of charge. It is better than ad ware in my opinion.

Spyware is often also distributed in websites.

You know all those sites that say "click 'Yes' to blah blah blah.." and your options are "yes" "no" and sometimes "more info"? Well when you click 'yes' it installs usually some custom applet (which 9 times out of 10 is not necessary), and usually spyware. Gator is NOTORIOUS for this.. so watch that..

If you click 'no' to everything (except things where you need them, like Macromedia Flash upgrades, and Microsoft updates) then you will be absolutely safe, aside from programs.

Very few professional (made by large corporations), actually probably none of them, have spyware in them.. it's only the smaller, "grey-area" or "less professional" apps that usually have them. Avoiding these also helps.

And of course, KaZaA does have it, but KaZaA Lite is the obvious alternative
