| I must say, this is a pretty freakin' sweet search engine: http://www.live.com/ Go ahead, type in marijuana and then browse through the search results, the news headlines, blog feeds, images, and academic papers. Make sure you look at all the features you can do, it's pretty cool. I especially like the way that the results are all on one page, you just keep scrolling down and it keeps adding more results, no need to go to another page. And the image gallery is cool because when you hover over an image it shows you a bigger version with some details. The Feeds section is neat too, shows you the feed in the side window, same goes for the Academic, you get a nice summary on the right side. Can't wait to see where this engine goes, has some potential.

| I love MS, but that looks like a cheap attempt at Google's Personalized Home Page. I have to admit the search feature is nice. No more clicking 'Next Page'. But the rest of the content and layout looks like they directly stole from Google. Wait, that's the MS way. Finally, they have something to compete with Google. The search war should get interesting for a bit, but I think Google's gonna win this round. |

| Hmmmm... I just typed in big tits under images and the search filter blocked everything. It doesnt look like there is a way to turn it off either. So if you use these search engines for porn like me, this might not be your engine.

| HL, I guess what I meant by "Wait, that's the MS way", was actually this: Microsoft likes to take great ideas and add their own personal touches to them. Basically, they take a good idea and add to it. I must say, though, it is pretty slick. I wasn't trying to talk it down, only to point out that it's got a VERY similar layout to Google's...even with the sponsored links...ESPECIALLY with the sponsored links. The points you layed out are definitely advantages MS has over Google, but remember, Google is continually ADDING features, while Microsoft is constantly overhauling. I think they could be a bigger force than Google right now if they didn't have the U.S. government mentality. |

| I mean how much more unique can you get with a search layout? I find it to be exactly the opposite, especially from a web developer's point of view. In Windows Live I don't ever have to submit information by going to another page, everything stays on one page, from the way the layout is setup, from 1 to 4 columns, to the colors of the page. You can't do any of the features that Live has in Google. 1. No need to go to another page to see more results 2. View detailed information about a result 3. Change the information that shows up in a result based upon detail level 4. Automatically show blog feeds in the side-pane 5. Summarize academic papers in the side-pane 6. No need to save settings, it's done automatically Really go through the features, I'm sure you'll realize the differences. Or maybe I just notice them more because I design websites, who knows. |
