Uh, a life threatening situation? Hes smoking pot, not shooting up heroin, smoking crack or meth. What an asshole. If I had to stand around holding a sign that said "I smoke pot" I would just do it with the biggest shit eating grin possible, maybe even ask some pedestrians in my best towlie voice if they "wanna get high"

That was insane!! I must admit that it took guts for the mom to humiliate herself by doing that! I've found that the parents who have rational discussions w/ their children about things have greater success in the long-run....what did that teach him? 4sure not to admit anything to his mother again!!

At least she really is worried about his health, since he has asthma. It's at least a decent reason to not want him to smoke, but still, this is way too extreme. Isn't publicly humiliating your children illegal?

this seems like a perfectly reasonable punishment to me. Now, I don't think she should be so against pot, but stearing clear of the issue of whether or not he should be punished, if he is going to be punished this works. A punishment's goal is really only to stop whatever behavior led to the punishment. If embarrassment works then by all means use it. It's better than spanking the kid. She's just a copycat though, because on the new about a month ago a father made his son hold a sign like that in front of the school while all the buses left. Thats even worse. So this seems like a fine punishment to me, even though I don't think he should be punished for smoking. Although if it really can hurt him because of his health issues, then he should be punished for being an idiot.
