Post For Grand-Pa Kenny

I wrote this as a birthday present for my father, since his father was a poet and had a book in print. Now, my own father has two of his own books of poetry in print.

I recorded this (and yes I re-used some music from the "ode to the sweet leaf" poem I already did) -- but I feel that the music in this poem fits better.

I never knew my grandfather. He was a hard-working, hard-drinking longshoreman with a hard-rock mine up here in Alaska. Pennsylvania-dutch heritage and really a source of inspiration for my own father.

After reading my grand-dad's book...I decided to write this:

Quote:
“A Tribute to Grand-Pa Kenny”
Although i Never knew you,
your spirit alone I continue to live through.

From your prose and fanciful rhyme…
you transcend both not space but also time..

It kindles deep, within this here mind,
for a longing that, if we but had only had time…

Perhaps in an age, in which we exchanged prose,
reflecting the words, exchanging poetic blows.

Although I never knew the man on the paper,
his inspiration in my soul never waivers…

Beyond the grave, and beyond all that’s known,
he continues to live on, inspiring my own

Oh! how, you Inspire, and drive this mind..
Bringing myself to place lost in time.

A place not so far, but for the bold at heart–
for i imagine that we are not so far apart.

The joy of the bard, it seems we both share–
lovingly creating our poetry with care..

Crafting the lines, and exchanging the verses,
allowing ourselves to vent all our curses.

This a poem to you — my grand dad,
I hope that you hear it…..and understand.
