"The Lesson Of Love"

This my very first poem I ever saved...It was written over 8 years ago by myself when I was still in high school.

Quote:

"The Lesson of Love"

Laying in bed, looking at my four walls,
deep in my chest my tatered heart calls.
A solitary song, full of tired old verses,
sadness and depression my only two curses.

Dejected and rejected, tossed out for trash,
scratched and picked at like a contagious rash.
Day to day somehow I live with the pain,
it permeates my essence like a blood-stain.

Better to have loved, and then to have lost,
optimist's words--not aware of the cost.
The tax on the body, the mind and soul
it leaves one's heart as blackened as coal.

But out of the ashes a new love grows,
born of new hope, love's truth now shows.
Love never gives us all we quite need,
for love is a sacrifice, it requires us to bleed.

We bleed and we bleed until we can bleed no more,
until we have drained all from our core.
And deep inside when that well has run dry,
this, my love, is the source of my cry.

It's going to be included in a book I self-publish once I reach about 20-or so more poems.

EDIT: at this point in my life I had never smoked weed, or done any mind expanding "off-topic". I believe I was either a sophomore or junior in HS.
