Here's a small teaser please tell me what you think.

"A squad of soldiers is sent to a very remote planet to help protect and police a small mining and research colony. After months of nothing but bar fights and petty crime the colony suddenly losses all communication with the outside and no longer receives their bi weekly supply ships. Rumors of an intergalactic civil war and limited supplies start to worry the soldiers as the colonist become more hostile and “accidents” begin to happen. Things only get worse after the discovery of a terrible secret hidden within the planets crust that could lead to the end of all humanity. "

So ive been bored all day and basically decided to officially start brainstorming for a story that ive had in the back of my mind for over a year now. Ive been working on the backstory all day and should probably have a rough draft of the story done in a week or so depending on my schedule. I will probably update this thread with any major breakthroughs. Right now im deciding on either turning this into a short story or a full on novel.

I'd say go for the "backstory". This is very similar to many HBO type sci-fi movies. the abandonment, new from home,the trouble that be, when Your not where You're supposed to be, but have to be bescause of Your premise. as it stands now. Effects,Stars, Musical background, could catapult any outer space show. As a Novel, it would have to be much more developed,and not so obvious.Keep going!

Well i have basically 4 possible storylines that im im trying to decide on. And my biggest decision is trying to decide on to either make the main character an anti-hero or not.

And the teaser is a very vague and general summary of the overall plot.
