Well.... I have this big paper due for English.... and normally I love writing for my English class (my teacher's real cool, he was a big stoner back in the day)

But this particular assignment has me completely stumped... and it seems like the kind of assignment a pothead could give good advice on.

I have to write a magic realist story....

What I gotta do is take any character from any type of folklore, legend, or myth (anything goes)... and put that character in a modern-day scenario.

I have absolutely no F*uckin' clue where to start. And it's due on Monday...

Just start with your favorite legendary character and then put him/her in a situation nowadays that you could easiily write about based on your life.

Maybe you could write about Johnny Appleseed. Now there's a real hero. Write about him being brought to the future (now) and going to all the cafeterias and foodcourts amazed that nobody is eating apples??

Take a fictional character of the type you mentioned from one of your own personal reading or gaming experiences and place them at the mall on a saturday afternoon.
Then ask yourself how they would react to their surroundings and those people they see there and how the people would react to them.

(anything goes)... and put that character in a modern-day scenario.


How would Conan the Barbarian fit in? heheh or maybe Captain Hook? or how about one of the characters from Starwars or Lord of the Rings or Hercules.

What would Tom Sawyer do? Just use your imagination heheh I dont think theres any wrong answer

Yeah maybe jonny appleseed could go around and plant good herb all over the country, haha.

Something maybe about han solo having to go threw school and stuff, but he ends up being an outlaw. Or maybe the big bad wolf being taken off to jail for attempted murder. Or Gandalf running around new york turning everyone into frogs?

Is there a specific length it has to be? because if not you could just write about humpty dumpty trying to cross the street, and then gets run over by a dairy truck.

That sounds really good. You could have Homer think he's doing his Odesey thing, but it's actually a suburban town. Or have some god/godess of the greeks freak out and start tearing down the place. I like this idea, nice work stoned hobbit.

The key here is "Modern Day Scenario"

Everything "modern" -- from cell phones to computers to cars to televisions to Shoe Stores is out of the normal to a "storybook character":

* Cinderella at Payless Shore Source

* Captain Kirk trying to beam up using a cell phone

* Any Greek god demanding the actors appear out of the television -- and they DO! (nice double cross)

...get stoned and write...and don't edit til you are threw...
