I thought I heard someone mumbling that
this land is your land, my land
from the jail-house to the newsstand
both being mind containers
just as they planned
despotic
absolute power
the power to buy
the power to sell
not only politicians
not only officials
but hearts wrapped around small ideas
terrorism brought to you by errorism
and other corporate sponsors
the business behind fear
contorting patriotism
unnatural fire behind a rear
unwarranted power
slow roasting of trust
tricking peaceful people
into corporate blood lust
many rot on welfare
useful hands left to rust
they don’t conform
so we can’t use them
we outlaw things to abuse them
instigate education to confuse them
propagate lies to accuse them
as lesser people than we
forget equality
make unity uniformity
then market normality
all who don’t comply are aborigine
doomed to negativity
at cash registers with food stamps
in projects without electricity for lamps
because the bill can’t be paid
and the DEA sends raid after raid
couch cushions re-sewn time and again
because we think we’re the better men
and they have nothing
except flashy clothing
and cars with spinning wheels
because they never learned to manage money
they never had it so they don’t understand
soon as they get it they blow a grand
don’t save up for land
or maybe they don’t plan on buying it
perhaps time will tell and they’ll demand it
become a black nation with united spirit
and not let anyone else near it
of course then we’d fear it
and they’d be terroristic
so much for right to life
we just have to live
separated on a sieve
when circling a nationality
on forms reducing men to statistics
making homes into real estate markets
and populations into targets
you can own the sand underneath our feet
throw us in jail
rinse and repeat
we’ll just make a global internet world
and when we come to you we’ll press delete
that would be a monumental feat
if we can’t survive we must compete
we are young
you will be forced to retreat
into a mangled jungle of concrete
in a place without price tags
at a time without winter
on the finger of God
we are a splinter
destroyed the dynamics of weather
polluted the water
poisoned the air
from your mansions you don’t care
we continue in prayer
aching for freedom we never saw
yearning for safety from the law
to us it is a scratching claw
across the face of children
because you won’t listen
as your ocean view glistens
we shoulder tension
fight a greedy generation
start a revolution
we’re due for one
reoccuring as a mortgage
when theres a liberty shortage
forget our patronage
