At the time of writing this: 7 years, 6 months, 14 days, 17 hours, 44 minutes, and 38 seconds - This is when the world as we know it will cease to be (Donnie Darko style, I know).

At that exact moment it will be: December 21st, 2012, at 10:24 in the AM. Why, you may ask? Well:

(NOTE: I know a lot of this is pretty much just loosely assembled spectulations, but I'll try to go out on a limb with providing reasonings)

1) New York - if you haven't seen the commercials - is looking to be the host of the 2012 summer Olympics. Let's see - The Olympics...in New York. Target, anyone? Prediction: New York will get the bid and something will happen here (August?) that will lead to the begining of World War III. The date above is simply a major event of this war.

2) Accourding to the Mayan calendrical system, on this date our sun will be perfectly aligned with the center of our galaxy - something that happens every ~28,000 years. Although the Mayans do not say this Galactic Alignment is inherantly negative, they say a "world changing event" will take place. (Side Note: Yes, this is what Incubus is singing about when they mention 2012 AD in songs like "Certain Shade of Green").

3) I'm not using this as fact, but more for a general referance: If any of you remember the John Titor thing, he was this guy who claimed to be from the future and told about our world...He mentioned something about WWIII ending sometime(?) in 2013. I simply mention this because December 21st is close to January (2013). Take it with a grain of salt, I'm not saying I believe the guy either...Just sayin.

I'm not totally saying the world will be destoyed, but I'm just making a prediction that a lot of sh!t will hit the fan. My main reason for writing this is the Mayan prediction thing, as the New York thing is a prediction and the John Titor thing is simply referance.

Anyways...Recite it to your friends when they're stoned and scare the hell out of them.

this the mass extinction thing? some cosmologists reckon that at a point every sixty-odd thousand years our solar system comes into line with something and the combined gravitational effects of this pull loose a load of asteroids and the like from their orbit, and that this is the reason for the sixtythousand year cycle of mass-extinction scientists have found. ever heard of the dinosaurs?

i aint really one for the nostradamus bull****, but that one shook me a bit. makes more sense than the significance of a bunch of dates and numbers.

That's my birthday And actually I was born closer to 10:30 AM. I was premature though, only weighed 4 pounds and 6 ounces; had to be in an incubator too. They didn't make clothes my size so I had to wear doll clothes and special baby diapers I must be a prophet or something! Fear me.

Actually, 12 December 2012 is when the Mayan's "Long Count" calendar ends. The actual day, the twenty-first, is the winter solstice (shortest day of the year), which a lot of cultures haved based their calendars on (which happens to be the time of year when a lot of festivals take place for gods). Mayans had two different calendars, long and short counts. The last day in the Mayan calendar is written as 13.0.0.0.0, which is December 21, 2012, in the Gregorian calendar. The date is supposed to represent an extremely close conjunction of the winter solstice sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator and the ecliptic. Some people say this date is wrong though, and speculate that it is supposed to be October 28, 2011. Anyways, this date simply implies a "new world age" or a "new creation" because of 26,000-year cycles that take place. We are currently in the Age of the 5th Sun (3113 BCE - 2012 CE). The Aztecs follow the same calendar system. Literally translated, this date is supposed to bring bout a shifting of consciousness. The Hopi, however, call this new age the 5th World of Peace, saying we are in the 4th World of Destruction right now.

What's interesting about the year 3113 BCE date (according to the Mayans, August 13, 3113 BCE, or 0.0.0.0.0) is the beginning of human history. Coincidientally, the first Egyptian dynasty is dated at 3100 BCE; the first city (in Mesopotamia) is dated circa 3100 BCE; the Hindu Kali Yuga is dated at 3102 BCE. Lot's of cultures use ~3100 BCE as the beginning point of history actually, and those are just some examples.

The Mayan's also considered the cycle we are in now as the triumph of materialism, or the transformation of matter. They said that on 12/21/2012 that it would be a time of great forgetting. Here's a nice little tidbit actually:

There is only one timing frequency which unifies the whole galactic order from its largest constituent to its smallest. This timing frequency is the 13:20 ratio, found within the harmonic structure of the 13 moon calendar as well as our human bodies - our 13 main joints and 20 fingers and toes.

I've read a couple books dealing with Mayan/Aztec/Egyptian history and philosophies and such, and some of them are pretty nuts with how accurate they could be (expecially since they are considered "ancient" civilizations).

I knew about the winter solstice thing, but I thought that was why it was their "end" date, since it's the shortest day of the year?

Nope It's because of this:

On 13.0.0.0.0 (12 December 2012), the solstice sun will be found in the band of the Milky Way. We can call this an alignment between the galactic plane and the solstice meridian. This is an event that has slowly converged over a period of thousands of years, and is caused by the precession of the equinoxes. The place where the solstice sun crosses the Milky Way is precisely the location of the "dark-rift in the Milky Way" (the "xibalba be" or "the road to the underworld"). On the winter solstice of 2012, the noon-day sun exactly conjuncts the crossing point of the sun's ecliptic with the galactic plane, while also closely conjuncting the exact the center of the galaxy.
