| If anyone can come up with a decent title, let me know ![]() Ethan “Eff! The po-po are here,” says Julia. She’s not against swearing, I guess you could say she does it only when she thinks it’s appropriate. Or when she’s really mad. I think that the cops showing up would warrant a swear word though. I let my lighter go out and look to the bottom of the hill. The cops have definitely seen us, and I’m sure they have a pretty good idea what we’re up here doing. I put the little bong on the ground behind me. “Oh shit, not again! This is the third time this week. Whose turn is it?” asks Nicole. That’s more like it. Nicole doesn’t mind swearing. She’s the girliest girl ever, but manages to be a huge tomboy somehow. She was the first of all of us to start smoking pot. “I went last time, I think it’s Ethan’s turn,” says Kevin as he starts to empty and put away his pipe. Naturally Kevin would name me. Kevin would do anything to not have to do… anything. If it were up to him he would lay around all day drinking, smoking cigarettes and blazing. As if on cue, he lights up yet another ciggy. “I mean, it’s only fair, right? C’mon guys.” He sounds so nonchalant about it, too. The cops are now getting out of their car in the parking lot and shining flashlights up at us. It’s no use trying to all get away; they have us practically cornered at the top of this hill. Oh right, I should explain. We’re at the top of the hill across the field from our old school. It used to be a great place to smoke, being out of the way and up a hill, but it seems that the cops are starting to catch on. The only problem with this spot is that there’s a fence at the top of the hill that closes off peoples’ backyards. The fence makes it difficult to escape if, say, the cops show up. We’re basically cornered. “Lame Kevin! Why does it have to be Ethan’s turn?” says Julia, standing up now. I can’t help but smile. She’s the best girl a guy could ask for. Kevin isn’t really bothering me that much, though I appreciate the thought. I shrug, “It’s cool. I could use the exercise anyways.” I stand up after Julia and discreetly pour out the bong water. I hold it out for Jacob. It takes a second for Jacob to notice me. Eventually he looks up at me, eyes blood-shot and completely glazed over. It takes him another moment to realize what I want him to do. Has he even been listening to the conversation? I start to wonder if he knows that the cops are on their way. He slowly reaches out his hand to take the bong, doesn’t say a thing. I gesture him to hurry up as he slowly starts to pack it up. The cops are at the bottom of the hill now, shining their lights up at us. They can’t see what we’re doing in great detail yet, but time is running thin if we’re going to make it out of here. “Well, I’m off,” I say, tightening my belt. I’m skinny as hell, and there’s nothing I can do about it. I blame my dad’s genes. I think that Julia even weighs more than me, but it’s something that neither of us really likes to discuss. “Yo man! What about your half-quarter?” asks Kevin. He lowers his voice for the last two words. The cops are in ear-shot now, starting up the hill. I grab the baggie out of my back pocket and jam it into Jacob’s backpack. He looks at me, confused, and still doesn’t say a thing. I’m about to take off again, when, “Do you have your pipe sweety?” Julia asks. She knows that I have my pipe on me. Oh yeah. I grin and roll my eyes. I take the pipe-cleverly-disguised-as-a-highlighter out of my jacket pocket and toss it to Julia. What a life-saver. I grin at her, “What time do you wanna meet up after this?” I ask her. She checks her watch, “Uh, twelve-third,” she replies. Twelve-thirty. I turn to head off again, “Kiss?” she says rudely, as if it should have been anticipated. I guess it should have been. I lean in and kiss her. Her lips are so plump and moist… how did I ever find this girl? “Hur-ry!” sings Nicole impatiently. I break the kiss. “Eff…” mutters Julia. I’m finally ready to go. I start off, and turn to wave good bye. “Hey!” One of the cops yells at me. They’re definitely close enough to see what’s going on, and they’ve spotted me hurrying off. I’m about to break out into a sprint. “Your percy!” Jacob yells after me. Hah! I guess he is conscious after all. I reach into the side of my shoe and pull out my tiny little ‘emergency’ percy joint. Fuck, I’m such a stoner. I’m going to have to pitch it, there’s no way to get it to the others without the cops seeing. I break into a full run and hear the cops yelling at me to stop. Fat chance. If they want me, they’re going to have to catch me. I sprint down the side of the hill, along the fence, and discreetly toss the joint into somebody’s backyard. In the moonlight I can see children’s toys laid out on the grass in the same yard. I can’t help but chuckle, picturing the curious child bringing the joint to their parents, asking them what it is. The giggling becomes hard to control, me being baked out of my mind and all. That and my diminished lung capacity are starting to catch up with me. And I used to be a long distance runner. I feel the cop’s hand wrap around my arm. As he stops me and spins me around I manage a glance over his shoulder. The others are quietly slipping down the other side of the hill with all the evidence and the cops are none the wiser. Time to play dumb and innocent. Again, if you have a good story that you want to see put in THIS story, PM me with the gist of it. Leave any unimportant details out, as I'll likely be changing them anyways. Thanks for reading!
