For thousands of years people have been smoking marijuana. They have invented many uses for it and it has been culitiveted for at least 6,000 years. Yet in the last half century it has been made an illegal substance, void of all recreational and medicinal pourposes. in the following paragraphs, this report will give the facts concerning marijuana and hopefully change the minds of legislators that the laws concerning marijuana are unjust and unconstitional. Take a look at the Dutch marijuana policy. Many people say that the crime rate has risen dramatically and the durg use has gone wild since decriminilization. However this is just a piece of the anti-pot propaganda generated in order to discourage legalization in the US. The facts are that Holland has 60 percent of the drug use than the US does,a quarter of the crime rate, a quarter of the homicide rate, a quarter of the violent crime rate, and a tenth of the incarceration rate. This would not be possible if the Dutch had not reformed its drug policy. Many people belive that one could have died of a marijuana overdose. That is physically imsossible because in order to reach the toxicity level you would have to smoke 40,000 times the amount of marijuana needed to get one high. In comparison the toxicite level for alcohol is about 7 times the amount needed to get you drunk. As a result 5,000 people die every year from alcohol poisoning and nobody has ever died from a marijuana overdose. This brings us to an important topic, marijuana addiction. Like most drugs, marijuana can be addictive. However, unlike most drugs, the user will most likely never have any signs of addiction or withdrawal. This is because the axcess THC in one's system will get absorbed by bodyfat. The fat will then release small amounts of THC into the bloodstream and satisifying the brain's craving for the chemical (this can go on for week after one's last smoke). Therefor it is extreamly rare for someone to actually be addicted to marijuana. The constitution of these United States has guaranteed us freedoms of experssion and the American drug policy has violated and raped those rights. With these facts alone Americans must demand their first admendment rights, adopt the Dutch marijuana policy, and end this tyrannical and unjust war on marijuana. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I just want to hear your thoughts of this piece of work and ideas of some possoble revissions.

I'd like to see a bibliography as well, maybe it would help clarify some of these numbers, etc. Quote:
Also, has anyone suggested spell check to you? Just in that paragraph: withdrawl* excess* body fat* Therefore* Extremely* Your ideas could also use some more clarifying, your attempts to show your thoughts come across as feeble, and rushed. Take a little bit more time and re-write and I'd say you would be okay.

Except for a few misspellings (excess, therefore, extremely, expression, amendment), it's a great read. Got your intro, your facts, and a straight forward opinion. That's an A with any teacher. [edit] for a 16 year old, what.. sophomore in HS, and it's probably only a 1-2 page report, it's a good job. I've seen college students who do much worse, you know some of them come in with all of their reports written in AIM/chatroom writing. But like he said, include a reference for your sources. If you're throwing numbers out, it doesn't mean anything without a link to a reliable source.

I don't really want to sound like a dick, but your bibliography is...lackluster, I suppose. You got all of your facts from 2 sources? I'd say spend a bunch more time, get alot more facts, write like a 12 page paper and amaze the fuck out of the teacher. Then go smoke a bowl to your face in celebration!

Thats really a really good paper for its length, i wrote one similar to this but a few pages longer in gr.11 ended up being suspended for 5 days and made the newspaper(im from a small town). I was wondering if you dont mind me asking what kind of mark did you get and how did your teacher respond to it ?

well it isn't due yet, but my teacher did look over one of my rough drafts and said he couldn't wait for the final copy. he did correct a lot of the spelling though. i know i wont be suspended or written up or anything because many people have written about this topic before. on another note, a 5 day suspension huh, seems a little harsh. the school you went to must of sucked ass.
