| I love making fruit smoothies, I make one almost every day, I haven't come across a fruit yet that did not go really well in a smoothie. Smoothie making is like an art form to me... Today I made a smoothie with one of those round pears that are wrapped in that weird mesh, honeydew, mango, and banana, I threw in a little milk, some ice cubes, and a handful of oatmeal. Adding things like banana and oats will give the smoothie a good, thick consistency, just make sure you puree the oats with a little liquid first, or the smoothie will be gritty. I also really love experimenting with different juices and milks, soy will give your smoothie an added protein boost, as well as a nice nutty flavor. Hemp milk gives it a nice vanilla sweetness, and gives you a ton of omega 3's, 6's, and protein. Honey is a very important ingredient in smoothie making, because sometimes your mixture is just not sweet enough, depending on the fruits you use...I have found that when using bananas that are not brown, I have to add honey, because the not so ripe banana tartens it instead of sweetening it. Using frozen fruits like strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry will eliminate the need for ice cubes, but ice cubes are a must if you are not using any frozen fruit...warm smoothies suck....Now post your favorite smoothie recipes and tips!

| I love pretty much any smoothie. But I really like pumplkin ones. Like blending some mashed pumpkin with vanilla soy milk, ice cubes, some cinammon and nutmeg. And maybe some apple too. Strawberries with strawberry yogurt and chocolate soy milk is another favorite |

| I make a smoothie everyday for breakfast. I usually buy bags of frozen fruit at the store (winter) or fresh fruit and freeze it (summer). I mix all the fruit together in big gallon freezer bags and just keep them in the freezer. I usually use 1 banana 1/2 non-fat non-sugar Yogurt (has protein and lots of calcium) 20 grams of Whey protein (not casein) Just a little bit of orange juice, then I blend that mix up and add; Mango Strawberries Cherries Blackberries Raspberries Blueberry Usually just a mix and match of three of those fruits. I always feel so good after my smoothie, it comes out to ~500 calories ~30grams of protein, a ton of fiber, 70% of your calcium needs, and since I use mostly non-processed fruits I am getting plenty of phyto-nutrients. Definitely a health booster. |
