Hash Tar?

Alright, back in the day my friend setup a gravity bong, handed me some dro and asked me to load it. I grabbed the bud from his hand and it had this sticky black tar all over it. I asked what it was he said he made hash oil with a butane torch. Does anyone know how to make the tar to spread over nugs? I've seen recipes for liquid and a bar like substance, but nothing for tar.

If it was black my guess would be that he used a torch to heat a pipe and remove the resin inside then rubbed a nug in it. IF this is what it was then yeah, its kinda like hash, but much more like tar. You can get plenty toasted off it but it tastes and smells like burning tire. I don't know if this is what it was though. If you think so, look up more on resin and scraping.
