| Im making some marijuana butter this weekend for me and some friends to celebrate my roomate being done studying for his MCATs. I have never done it before, and I figured a forum online would be a good place to get some help from some friendly people with the same interests as myself. I am going to have an ounce of bud that I'd rate, from 1-10, 1 being the lowest, about 8.3. Some good nugget. Im gonna have 4 other people involved. We're gonna have: 28 grams, but only grind up 25 of the grams to make butter with. That is 5 grams of good nugget per person, is that enough? id hate to have this be a waste. 25 grams translates into mad bong hits ;] Secondly, I keep on reading that i should cook the bud in the butter (or should I use lard for higher fat content?) before I throw it in the brownie mix because THC is fat soluble and all the good stuff will get absorbed into the fat. Is this true? Must I cook the bud in butter on the stove first? Will it lose potency? How long do I cook it for, at what temp? What clues should I look for to tell me that i have the temp too high or low? Can butter reach THC saturation and then absorb no more THC, leaving THC to go to waste? Should I bother straining the butter? Should I bother even putting the butter in brownies or just down the butter as if it were an apple. blech. Basically, how do I get the most bang for my buck ![]() Thanks so much for anyone who can answer any of my 70 questions I just posted. Please feel free to email me back with responses at jahren@gmail.com |

| Figure three times as much pot per person as it would take to get high smoking it. If this stuff is 8.3 on a scale of 10 then I think 5g per person would be way too high - unless you're into grossly overdoing it. I take it you're a college student, so this may well be the case. Half that would be more than adequate.Grind up your bud as finely as you can. Some people simmer the pot in butter in a frying pan. I use a double boiler (a pan sitting in another pan that's full of boiling water). This prevents overheating. I've never heard of butter reaching saturation but if you're worried about that don't strain the butter. The resulting brownies might be a little gritty but you won't lose any potency that way. Throw some nuts in the mix and you'll never notice. I leave the mixture in the double boiler for a half hour to 45 minutes, stirring frequently. Eating raw cannabutter is pretty gross. Put it into a recipe or eat it on toasted English muffins with orange marmalade, one of my personal favorites. ![]()

| Must I cook the bud in butter on the stove first? Yes, on low heat. You can also do it with oil. Will it lose potency? Yes and no. Make sure you leave a lid on the top when you do this to keep the steam from escaping, which has THC in it. How long do I cook it for, at what temp? As long as you want, at a medium-low temperature. 30 minutes should be fine though. What clues should I look for to tell me that i have the temp too high or low? If your butter starts to boil, if your bud starts to turn brown. Can butter reach THC saturation and then absorb no more THC, leaving THC to go to waste? Everything has a saturation point, but with an ounce of cannabis going in you'll be fine. Just use a pound of butter. Should I bother straining the butter? For taste reasons you can, or you can leave it in. It's up to you. Strain it with a cheesecloth. Should I bother even putting the butter in brownies or just down the butter as if it were an apple. Well most brownie recipes call for an oil, but butter will work too. Remember though, brownie recipes usually only call for about 1/3-1/4 cup oil. Basically, how do I get the most bang for my buck. http://recipes.marijuana.com - Check out the "Cooking 101" and do a search at that site for "cannabutter." There are other recipes in there that require you to use all of your bud in the recipe, not just a certain amount of fat. Try those if you want to maximize your output. 3-5 grams per person will be fine. Also, all of these answers could have been found with a search. Thread Closed.
