Default Cooking amounts and nasty story.

G'day everybody,
I'm new here but looks like a good forum you got going here! Whenever I see websites like this I wonder to myself why the authorities still hold to their outdated legislation.. But that's another matter.


The other day some friends and I were down at a friends beach house, and for the first time ever, we tried cooking weed.
I made cannabutter (although I did not strain it as I was unsure as to the point of it?), and then made pancakes.
The pancakes turned out crap, but we ate them anyway.. then a few hours later we were so stoned that time forgot to make any sense for about 12 hours (2 in the arvo till we went to sleep).
My question is:

In nearly all guides I have read it has said to use what I consider rather large amounts of weed - half an ounce to an ounce!

We had an ounce, but only used probably a quarter or less in making cannabutter, and we used about 125grams of butter.

Why do so many guides suggest using so much when with this little amount we got more stoned than we ever have before?



Also - Nasty Story.

The other day we went to cook some more weedy food.. so i prepared the butter whilst my friend who is doing a course in hospitality which focuses on cooking prepared the mix.. we poured it all in and baked little cakes.

Me and him both tried them at the same time and both had about the same reaction - nearly threw up...
We couldn't figure out what went wrong.. but it tasted disgusting and we couldn't go back for more.
About 5 mins later when looking through the kitchen we realized that had happened.

My friend has put rather a lot of sugar into the mixture so it would be extra sweet.

Then he realized that his parents keep the salt in the same container as the sugar.
You gotta wonder who you could be soo stupid....

But using that much weed - we tried to salvage it.

No matter what we did (and we did a LOT) we could not get rid of the salty flavour and now the product is sitting on my bedroom floor becoz i don't wanna see all that weed go to waste!

Any suggestions? or should I just forget about it, feed it to the animals (bahaha) and remember to never let my friend cook again?

The only way to fix a salty recipe is to add more of the other ingredients, but since it's already baked, I don't know what more you can do. You could try crumbling the cakes up and add some honey and lemon juice to them and let it soak for a while and then put it in some pudding or something, but since most cakes call for cups of sugar it's going to be hard to mask a cup of salt.

I've been tryin to figure this out too..

Eating marijuana is more efficient than smoking it, from what I've gathered, yet recipies ask for a lot more then the amount that it would take me to get really, REALLY high.

I woz thinking it might have something to do with amounts of food that you eat.

I.E. if you put lots in then maybe only like half a cookie (if you made cookies for example) would get you really stoned instead of eating the whole batch......

We ate everything we made - but we didn't really make that much and didn't need that much weed... and we were too stoned!


Higher Logic - We tried everything we could think of, we blended it all up, split it in half then worked on each half to try and get rid of that awful taste.. we've ended up with something that mildly resembles rubber in consistency, tastes like salty play-doh (don't ask), but with a peanut buttery, chocolate taste to it too.
I think i'm going to have to through it out - coz I can not stand eating it..... even though I am pretty damn pissed off - that was a **** of a lot of weed!!!!
And therefore MONEY!!!!

The amount you need to eat is usually estimated as twice the amount you need to smoke. So if you and your friend ate a quarter together, it would be like you had smoked an eighth in one sitting. Most recipes are designed for more than just two people.

You have to think in terms of the total amount of pot you're consuming. Figure three times as much per person as you would smoking the same weed. That should keep you very high for 6 to 8 hours, starting about an hour after you finish eating.

So then eating marijuana, even if it is mixed with fat or alcohol, is half or a third as effective as smoking it?

No. It's about the same but when you eat it the duration is longer. Instead of a two hour high it's six hour high.

I'd say it's more effective. I could smoke 3 grams of marijuana or eat 3 grams of marijuana eating it would definately last longer and be a much more intense high, hence more effective. It comes down to personal prefernce though.
