| A stick (or cube) of butter is equal to 8 ounces (or 1/2 cup) of butter. 1 pound (or 2 cups) of butter would be 5 sticks (or cubes) of butter.

| Hi I'm annie from Canada. I'm a newbie and this is my first post. 1 lb of butter is 16 ounces in weight, it is also equal to 2 cups. A stick is different to different people and dairy producers/packagers as well. 'Stick' is not a reliable term for measuring butter. If a recipe calls for half a cup of butter that is equivilant to 4 ounces if you are weighing it or a 1/4 lb, if you are measuring the 1/2 cup with a measuring cup then it should be in solid form as this is standard for measuring butter unless a recipe specifically calls for a melted measure. I hope that clears things up once and for all, LOL! Now, my question; I have read this entire thread and I think I know what I'm doing. Our pot is potent here but I am still going to use about 3/4 ounce to 1lb unsalted butter. I will use the double boiler method as I don't want to burn it and I will cover it with a glass lid and simmer for 2 hours then strain through sieve lined with a thin handkerchief. I will grind the bud, no stems. No boiling! I will squeeze out butter mess after straining. Do I need to repeat the process with the leftover green gunk and another lb of butter to make sure I get all the yummy stuff out? Any suggestions from the seasoned budder makers, please and thank you. B'Shalom...annieCAN |

| Sorry if this has been asked before. The original poster in this thread (panama I think) said that 1 pound of butter is equal to 1 stick of butter. I've read on a few different websites that 1 stick of butter is equal to 4 ounces. Which is true? |
