| My rule of thumb is 1/4 oz clean weed to 1 lb. real whole butter. You can leave the stems in, but seeds contain no THC and give off a funny taste to the budder. Place the butter and the pot into a large saucepan and heat it slowly until the butter is simmering. Do Not Boil it. Stir occasionally to keep the mixture from burning. the temperature should be between 190 and 210 degrees farenheit. Simmer for approximately half an hour. Strain the butter through several layers of cheesecloth (to get out the plant material). the result will be butter which is a green color that can be used in cooking or as a spread. Pan

| Does anyone know how long (if not indefinitely) a confection made with cannabudder will retain optimal potency? I'm going to be out of town on 4/20 this year and want to protect myself from incarceration on our holiday by not relying on an unfamiliar market or taking raw ganja with me on the plane. Cookies would make the perfect camoflage for the THC, but I've never made budder before and I don't really want to be surprised by enjoying a tasty moist yummy boring old normal cookie. | |

| I made some cookies a little bit ago using 1/2 ounce of regs and some cookie mix that used 1 egg and 1/4 cup of oil, which ended up yielding 30 cookies I think. A single cookie was enough to get you STONED for a good 4 to 5 hours! The longer you simmer the weed in the oil, the better. Also, I don't strain out the weed like Pan suggested. I just throw the nasty-ass looking oil/weed concoction right into the cookie batter. It doesn't taste too good, but I think it is more efficient that straining the plant material out. While the cookies are cooking, more THC can probably be taken out from the weed and absorbed into the oil, just like how the Leary Biscuit works(Leary Biscuit is a microwaveable single-use method). As for how long the potency will last.... The cookies I had were around for at least 3 weeks, and there was no noticeable loss in potency! I don't think I even refrigerated them, which would probably make them last longer as long as keeping them in the dark(which might also make them last longer). To simmer the oil/weed, I used a double-boiler for about 1.5 hours, then simmered the pan with the oil/weed directly on the burner under VERY LOW heat for another half hour or so. It seemed to work pretty well that way! I don't know if simmering it for less time would have had the same effect, better effect, or maybe even less effect. Good Luck! | |

| Cheese cloth is like a very thin, fine cloth that you use to cook, strain etc. But i have a question, would a fine strainer be ok? Because it may let some plant through, would that matter?

| Slightly -- I use a very fine strainer; however my friend use cheesecloth. In the end, my butter comes through with only few more pieces of plant than cheescloth, and my friend has admitted that, using the same plants, same amount of both mj and butter, mine is just a bit 'stronger' than his. | |

| If you don't have cheese cloth, you can use pantyhose or stalkings (I have). If you are or live with a woman (for me, it was my mom) this will save you the trouble of buying cheese cloth. A friend of mine uses a method where he cuts of the foot off a pair of pantyhose, puts the weed in there, and ties it off, making a little bag. He says that it doesn't really work unless you make a really large batch because you need enough butter so that the bag floats and doesn't touch the bottom and burn. About 4(!) pounds of butter and an Oz. of our green friend in a sauce pan (he makes this much because he sells "totally baked" goods at parties). Also, it takes a lot longer, 45 mins to an hour, to extract the THC. The positive side is that it saves a lot of time in straining because all you have to do is pull the little pantyhose bag out and squeeze the excess butter out with two spatulas. It's a good method if you're making a lot at once. | |

| What if I used like a 20 bag? I'm getting mixed up now, 20 bag equals 2 grams, right? Well what if I used that in the butter but just lowed all of the ingredients to make only a couple of cookies?
