Are you comparing Carter to Obama? I'm just curious because I do remember Jimmy Carter, and I do not see a resemblence between him and Obama. I do not mean "looks," I am referring to policies.

Actually. I've read 3 books about Obama so far. The 2004 speech at the DNC he wrote himself. When he was younger, he actually wanted to be a writer. Then ofcourse, he wrote 'Dreams From My Father', in which, I am reading right now. By far, one of the best books I have read in years. All politics aside, the way he writes is pure poetry. And as the previous quote above, in his younger years, he wrote about how lovely marijuana was, living by the ocean in Hawaii.

As far as the speech last night. Was absolutely amazing. I'll admit, Obama is one of my heroes, he inspires me to do more, and listening to his speech last night got me a tad bit teary eyed, for one. We witnessed history. Good job Obama!
Still, Mr. Obama's 'historic' speech was written by somebody else I'm willing to bet. Hero or not, he's just like any other politician. He's got an agenda, and if he smiles bright enough he might blind you with his charisma to the point where people don't care what his agenda is.

Allegedly Obama writes his own speechs, and is a very apt speech writer and orator. However I don't know this as fact, thus allegedly.

Im not sure that Obama will be the best thing since sliced bread, but many of his policy directions naturally get my support, whilst McCain seems like the embodiement of the Christian right.

I don't know whether Obama would ever press to legalise weed (I would guess not), but I am damn sure that McCain would be a hell of a lot worse, not only on weed, but on international relations, and helping the little guy.

My hope is that if there is enough public support Obama will do something, even though I wish the chances of this happening were 1 in a million. But at worst he will maintain the status quo, where I assume McCain will actually actively work against marijuana decriminalization (that and I don't think he really looks to kindly on medical marijuana).

If either HR 5843 or 5842 were sent to McCain to sign, he'd more than likely veto them outright, with Obama they've at least got a shot.

Are you forgetting the Presidents have actually helped the people? It's easy to forget that, after serving under Satan for the past 8 years.

As far as his, 'personal agenda'. I must understand that I find that highly unlikely. He wants the very best life for his daughters, and for a great US when they raise there kids. I must look at the facts, that after graduating from Harvard, he went to the poor streets of Chicago to give a voice for the poor. When, he himself drove a beat up used car, who lived in a broken down apartment, and was making a little over 25k a year. Someone who made it his life work, to listen to them, and come up with such great solutions to put a roof over there heads. And he did.

I can only hope, this will be the same man, who leads our Country. Someone who gets it, someone who actually lived the American dream. Someone who made his fortune by doing what he actually loved to do, write. And recently paid off his college debt. I can only hope, that Obama is this same man. Because in his life, history repeats itself.

True. Hehe.

And he did.
So have millions of others.
I dunno, it seems almost ironic Obama touts how he will help others unable to succeed as if he was the last one capable of doing it himself.

I don't know. I hear Obama's words and they just seem empty.Like he is saying all these things to get into office. After all, he's saying everything (for the most part) people want to hear. Isn't that what the candidate for presidency usually does?
