I am in no way racist, and this has been in the back of my head for quite a while.
I like Obama, I agree with his views on most issues and think he's quite a good candidate. However that doesn't mean everyone has the same opinion, and I (for one) am afraid that someone will try to shoot him or otherwise attempt to kill him.

With the way our society is, we have to face the fact that there are a LOT of racists in America. People have real problems having to report to, or be led by other races. I mean, just a few weeks ago they foiled that plan a few White Supremecists were working on to kill African Americans with Obama being the last target. Although they said they weren't even sure if they would be able to pull it off, it still shows that there are people out there planning attacks like that, and Obama technically isn't even black!

I dont know, this has been on my mind and I wanted to see if other people feel the same or what they think the threat on this is.

P.S.- I tried a search on this and couldnt find a thread on this so sorry if this has already been in discussion

I made a bet this morning it will happen before the inauguration (if he becomes president). That doesnt' mean I WANT it to happen. But being from the south, and hearing the things i hear, I believe it is a very high probability that it will happen.
For me the vote for president didn't have anything to do with race, but for some, I see everyday, where race is the only issue, in this race. It is a shame. I believe, black, white, red or purple, if you are qualified, your race shouldn't be an issue, but I still live in the south, and still see racial issues all the time.

thats also one of my great fears, i tried to shrug it off until i heard about the plans uncovered to kill him..look at it this way, JFK was targeted because he supported certain issues that the minority disliked e.g. he gave black and colored people allot more freedom in America. this amongst others was a reason he was assassinated. so you can imagine what could happen to Obama because hes actually half black. the world will be in termoil if he was to be assasinated and allot of racial fighting would begin. i keep my fingers crossed that this doesn`t happen..(vote)Obama 08

I can't say for sure if he will be assassinated. However, I can say I know racism exists, and I know there are people that will kill because of it. I hope it does not happen. If he is elected, hopefully the secret service can protect him well enough.

I think a better question after the DA refused to prosecute the 3 that had plans to assassinate Obama is:

"Will we allow him to be assinated?"

Thats funny!! If Obama is assassinated, you think the "world will be in turmoil"

Surely, Americans will experience turmoil and we will also face a lot of race riots. But to assert that because the POTUS gets killed this will somehow send the entire world into turmoil is laughable.

That said, I hope it doesn't happen, but I can't control it...

Me and my friend have actually discussed this a few times. I think we first mentioned it way back when we first hear of him. But it can damn sure happen. At the Halloween party I was at this weekend, this guy walks into the room and we start talking about costumes. This guy says "Next year I plan on buy a monkey suit and a mask and going as Obama if he wins." This was just an everyday dude, imagine how many of those crazy racist people there are out there.

I've seen racism come out more and more. Sunday, I talked to a person I knew in High School, that's on my myspace. I figured that he was an Obama supporter, considering his GF had a 'Barack the Vote' status on hers. Anyways, I mentioned it, and he said.. "I want it to be the White House, not the Black House."

I deleted him. Can't possibly have ignorant people like that around.

There are racists, like above. And then, there is the extreme racists with guns ready to go at it. Not an insult at guns. But let's face it, if assassinated, it will be by a bullet.

But to answer your question. No. I believe that the Secret Service is far more aware of racism, and will do any means necessary to keep him living.

However, on a side note..... Here's racism in the Secret Service

• In some of the court documents, the senders of the e-mail messages are identified only by the jobs they currently occupy and the rank they held when the messages were sent. For example, an Oct. 9, 2003, message referring to a “Harlem Spelling Bee,” ridiculing black slang, was sent by Thomas Grupski, then assistant director for protective operations, who, according to the filing, now heads the Office of Government Liaison and Public Affairs.
• A March 3, 2003, message describing Mr. Jackson as the “Righteous Reverend” was passed among several Secret Service supervisors. The message, about a missile striking an airplane in which Mr. Jackson and his wife were traveling, concludes, it “certainly wouldn’t be a great loss and it probably wouldn’t be an accident either.”
• Another message contains what one Secret Service official said was a joke referring to interracial sex. The joke circulated in February and March 2003. It was sent, according to the lawsuit, by Donald White, who heads the Presidential Protective Detail, to Kurt Douglass, an agent in charge of the Secret Service office in Cincinnati.

It's a very real possibility, and I'd say that at least one person will probably try, but I think in the end he'll be alright.

Obama likely has the Secret Service working overtime, though - that's for sure.
