| Ok, then that makes sense. What do you think of a person's right to own firearms when they have a prior conviction of a violent crime involving a firearm? Also, I'm interested to hear your take on the right to carry a concealed weapon in a bar or club where only alcohol is served? Should both employees and patrons be allowed to carry them? I have my own thoughts on these two questions, but perhaps you can shed a different perspective on it, since you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on the issue. |

| In most states, a felony conviction of ANY kind bars one from gun ownership. The only way to get this right back is, I believe, to petition the court that convicted you. In reality, a gun crime of any kind DOES bar you from firearms ownership, something I'm all in favor of. AS far as guns in bars/clubs go, I see no reason for patrons to be armed. I'm as pro-gun as one can get, but don't think a building full of people under the influence of alcohol should have access to guns. I've witnessed enough bar fights and seen people act completely irrationally during them. A gun in such a situation can't be a good idea. As far as armed security guards....i'm all in favor of it, as long as they are not allowed to drink on dutry under any ciurcumstances. So as we don't hijack this thread, I invite you to "Freedom isn't free" a thread on gun control found in the politics subforum. Reading that, I'm sure you'll get a firm idea of what I'm about when it comes to the subject of an armed citizenry

Samuel Adams warned that: "The said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press, or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms." All I was saying is that it's a little hypocritical to take one relationship that calls one candidate's character into question, and forget another. I know they're different situations, but something about drakster's post just irked me.

I also believe that future historians will look at this epoch and recognize it as another instance of the 'madness of crowds.'" ~Dr. Lester Grinspoon | |

"Had the reverend not retired and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying there at the church." If he actually was going back on his relationship with the Reverend for political gain, I'd have less respect for Obama, but it appears as though Wright also made some sort of apology (which I can't find any articles for).
