A good chunk of the country doesn't live with a fast response when dialing 911. We have 20 minutes or more to deal with whatever needs dealt with. Whether it's a bear or man, a firearm comes in handy. I'd be thinking on plan B if I was holding a Katana.

Yes. I would want to be able to kill someone if I were put in the position that not doing so would cost me or my family their lives. I would rather have the power to take control of a situation, than leave it up to the masked man who has already shown he does not respect my property line/house.

If only the criminals knew that before they broke into gun-owners' homes, or attempted to rob them (actually, in places where gun-owner populations are high, people are less likely to be robbed due to that simple fact).

My buddy used to visit Compton numerous times a week to see his girlfriend. It's a bad city, I'll give you that... but they don't kill-whites on site. As long as you're not a dick, you won't have problems.

Furthermore, if you outlaw guns, the only people who will have them are criminals. So if your point is that there are already so many people with guns in Compton... that only makes me want to protect myself more.

No, sometimes they intimidate people. Sometimes they catch food. Sometimes they look nice on the wall. Sometimes they keep a thug from hurting you or the ones you love.

So be it. The way I look at it, if someone attacks another person... and the victim so happens to have a gun and shoots the attacker (and injures or kills them)... it was the attacker's choice to take the risk, and it is his own fault for whatever happens to him. I will choose protection of innocence over the protection of criminals any day.

You only don't have a need for a gun as long as you don't have a need for a gun... but the second you are in a situation where a gun will literally mean the difference between you/your family's safety... you will be wishing you had a way to take control of the situation.

Why would a gun owner be afraid? They have a gun. Are you "afraid" because you have airbags or seat belts?

This has nothing to do with Bush. A long time ago, a group of very smart men put together a document insuring certain rights. And with the understanding that all citizens must--at some point--rise up against their country + have the ability to protect themselves, their families, and their land... they made it explicitly a right to bear arms.

You mean the thief will have a Katana after he shoots you in the face? Plus... wtf man.. lol... so you're telling me it is better to hack a guy up than to shoot him? You're sitting here arguing about harming people and you have a friggen Katana? Or do you just use it to intimidate? If so, you are no different than the many people (police included) who never fire their weapon, and only us it as a notice of "yeah, i have a weapon".

Well I understand perfectly the need for having a gun inside the house, I have a revolver in the home for house protection. But I'm saying when people carry them around like cowboys, that's when the trouble rises up.

I'm thinking guns never should have been available for anything other than hunting game, period.. there's nothing we can do about it now. People are always going to want to kill each other... people are horrible creatures. Land, Power, Money.. these are the things humans crave.

There's no escape from murder, greed, corruption, or gays (according to the reds).
I figure drugs and guns are on the same level.. if anyone should be able to carry a gun and put the lives of others in risk, anyone should be able to do any drugs they want and put their own life at risk.

It's a one-way street but people try to drive in both directions.

It's hypocrisy and lies to keep the ones in power on hold of all the power, despite what ANYONE says. I don't give a fuck about our government or this country. I know a lot about it, too.. I was a political science major for a while, but learned it was a stupid, corrupt system based on a theory that no one seems to remember: Democracy..

I just wanna smoke my weed, make my living, and live my life. Anyone who says otherwise can go to hell. Isn't that what this country was founded on to begin with?

I highly doubt Obama/Biden will take your guns away. And yes, I did look at there voting record. It looked mostly like more background checks, and stop the loopholes of any person who can buy a hand gun at a convention. Anyone see these right-wing nutjobs who got a gun at a gun convention without getting a background check, and shot up Unitarian churches? They were psycho's! I believe we need to be a little strict on who gets these objects.

I believe people who are mentally unstable to handle the weapon responsibility, shouldn't have the right to bare arms. That's why there should be strict laws on how to get one. Period.

Your arguments have been brought up time and time again in the gun control threads. If you want to discuss the issue, use the existing threads as you've already been told.

Sounds like basic libertarianism coupled with a laissez-faire capitalist economy - and yes, the basic principles this country was founded upon. As a self-proclaimed former poli-sci. major, I'm surprised you don't already have a sufficient understanding of this, and why you would ask some of the questions that you did.
