Main article: Early life and career of Barack Obama Obama was born on August 4, 1961, at the Kapiolani Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Obama, Sr., a Black Kenyan of Nyangoma-Kogelo, Siaya District, Kenya, and Ann Dunham, a White American from Wichita, Kansas. His parents met while both were attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student.[3] They separated when he was two years old and later divorced.[4] Obama's father returned to Kenya and saw his American-born son only once more before dying in an automobile accident in 1982.[5] After her divorce, Dunham married Lolo Soetoro, and the family moved to Soetoro's home country of Indonesia in 1967, where Obama attended local schools in Jakarta until he was ten years old. He then returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents while attending the private Punahou School from the fifth grade in 1971 until his graduation from high school in 1979.[6] Obama's mother returned to Hawaii in 1972 for several years, then returning to Indonesia for her fieldwork. She died of ovarian cancer in 1995.[7] Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years.[8] He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations.[9] Obama graduated with a B.A. from Columbia in 1983, then worked at Business International Corporation and New York Public Interest Research Group.[10][11] Barack Obama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Take note that he chose a career in the application of the very things he despised as a youth. People do drugs for a variety of reasons; most of which a large number of individuals are not consciously aware of themselves. I hope this brilliant young man continues to challenge us all to become assets to our families and our nation. Great to know that today`s generation of college age men and women are more than willing to take up a challenge.Give `em something worthy to strive for, Barack. | |

| Interesting quote if anything. I'm not big on Obama, although I don't know too much about him. I think he is a decent enough guy, at least more than most, and I am glad he isn't denying any past marijuana/drug use at least.

| I just thought I'd bring this up as a matter of discussion. With the American voter being the way that they are, do you really think someone named Barrack Hussien Obama is going to be elected to the White House? Half the people in this country thinks he's a muslim. His name rhymes with Osama. Some black people feel he isn't black enough and some white people feel he is too black. Other than a curiousity, can he be an effective candidate? |

| Yeah, but his campaign has said that he no longer believes in decriminalizing marijuana afaik. And at one of the debates, he agreed with the notion that marijuana should not be decriminalized. That's fine by me, I'd rather he play it safe. I feel he is a much better candidate than McCain and a slightly better one that Hilary, so I'd prefer that he massages the masses and takes the safe road. I don't care if he decriminalizes, I don't think he'd get support from Congress on that anyway. I don't think the world is ready for decriminalization, and it would only add to the ammunition of obnoxious pundits who will ramble on about how terrible drugs are (probably loudest of all from Rush Limbaugh, fucking idiot). I think we'll need at least another 15-20 years before people realize that decriminalizing marijuana is the best way to go. Of course, I'm sure they thought that back in the 70s...

I also believe that future historians will look at this epoch and recognize it as another instance of the 'madness of crowds.'" ~Dr. Lester Grinspoon |
