First president/nominee to write his own speech since Kennedy... a good one at that. That's change enough for me, all the other politicians are the same; Remind me of sheep. I like a person who can speak his own, real words. That's what makes us all real, it what makes us us. All the other politicians are fake and it took me a long time to realize that... so I'm saying fuck political parties this year, I'm voting for whoever seems the most real because my bet woud be that same person is also going to care more than anybody else... care about something more than money, hopefully about us.

I got to tell you. Obama has actually changed my life, and also the way I view the world. I was 18 in 2004 when he made his speech at the DNC. I was big time into partying, and didn't give a damn about politics and news. By chance, before I walked out of the door, I heard 5 seconds of his opening speech. The minute I heard it, I actually sat down with my family and began to listen closely at what he said. Besides beautifully written and sung songs, have I ever gotten chill bumps up until I heard him speak. At times, my eyes even started to water. It wasn't poetry, but it sure was art. At that time, at that very moment, I knew this man will run for President.

You know how you listen to your favorite song over and over again. Years later, you listen to that song again and you know exactly how you felt during that time? That's how I feel when I listen to him talk today. It's an amazing feeling. And since that time, I have donated hundreds of dollars and even volunteer when I had free time one weekend.

OBAMA 08!!

Bill Clinton...the ery same man who was offered Bin Laden and decided he wasn't important enough to take into custody when he was served up on a silver platter
Is it because their are so many connections from Bush's family to Bin Ladens? Even money trails of millions!?!?!? What shock! Our tax paying dollars went to him and his family. Wonder why he was so wealthy?

Would 9/11 happened if Clinton would have done the right thing?
WOULD? Would Christianity exist if Jesus was killed? WOULD this still have of happened if Bush gave him and his family money?

All I said was, our economy was doing far better after Clinton cleaned up(and off her dress). Clinton's administration was far better than both the Bush's admin, thats all. Of course, Clinton could have made a mistake by not capturing him. As well as, Bush Sr, and 'Dubyah'. But... Would that end terrorism? Absolutely not. Will America always be targeted simply because of the hatred of our way of life? Absolutely yes.

No, if Bill Clinton had accecpted the offer of Bin Laden, it wouldn't have "ended terrorism". However, it may very well have stopped the single most devestating terrorism act on our soil, which has affected every aspect of American life, including the economy, and was the single defining event of Bush's time in office. Had 9/11 never happened, Bush would have never had the opprotunites to lead us into a war we cannot win and a war we should have never entered. While 9/11 happened on Bush's watch, the events which set it into motion took place during the Clinton era.
quick review of history:
The Wall Street Journal Online - The Visible Hand

Clinton didn't even HAVE to take him into custody. We were offered him on a silver platter, and we, or rather the Clinton Administration, couldn't be bothered with the hassle of taking control of him. The very same man we've spent BILLIONS on finding was offered to us, and Bill said "No thanks". OUr present economy results in a large part from the war we are fighting...a war which may not have been necessary had Clinton took BL in when we had the chance. He was too busy saving our economy to worry about such things like terorrism or national security.....so, in effect, he may have helped the presen t economy at the time, but his lack of concern about our nation's enemes contributed to the economies present state of chaos. Bill Clinton, and his lack of action, gave George W. Bush the oppotunity to run this country into the ground, in my opinion. He's far from the hero some of his supporters attempt to paint him as

Obama will bring change if you force him to. Any politician will. All it requires is pressure; and I don't mean voting in a CNN.com poll. Take a hint from the French--when your government fucks up, you teach them a lesson. Boycott. Go on strike. Hold your taxes back. Force the government to bend to your will.

Nothing stops the American people from doing any of these things--nothing except their lazy "blame Washington" mentality.

You're all right; nothing in America will change until you get involved in politics. If one can credit Obama with anything, it's bringing that message to young voters.
Let's see...hold back my taxes? I'm sure the jury will be completely understanding at my trial.
Lets now look at your next suggestion...Boycott. Boycott who? Boycott what?
Okay, now lets look at your next suggestion....go on strike. You're now suggesting that I fuck myself up financially and possibly get evicted and lose my job so that MJ can be legal. Let me think about that for awhile.

If you really want change, you have to get off your ass and sacrifice something. For god's sakes, most people don't even vote in this country, and they have the arrogance to whine about their government? Turnout in my state's last gubernatorial election was like 33%, and much lower for local elections; yet people complain about my area's immigration policies. Your vote is power. Use it.

That's step one.

Step two.

You can boycott anyone. It doesn't matter who. Boycott the companies that drug test their employees. Boycott the companies that support the War Drugs. Boycotting requires organization, but money is power. Put your wallet to use.

And that's not the only thing you can do.

You can go to protests. If enough people bothered to show up, they WOULD make a difference. Ask the French workers who shut down their government as an act of protest.

You can join an organization, volunteer, phone bank, register voters, write to the local newspaper--I don't have to hold your hand and do it for you. You're making up excuses for doing nothing.

You aren't the only person who has a full time job. The world doesn't change by itself.

If you define change as having a "D" next to your name instead of an "R" then Obama will bring change to the White House, but Obama's election is unlikely to be a meaningful departure from the last 20 years of Bush and Clinton.
I respectfully disagree. Since Reagan the idea of laissez-faire economics has taken over North America. Essentially rolling back economic reforms to before the New Deal.

A basic tennet of this school of economics, pioneered by Milton Friedman, is that government regulation should be minimized, ideally eliminated, and really the only service that should be provided is police and military.

Now, some cynical people might think these ideas may be great for profits, not so good for people.

And everywhere these ideas have been tried unfettered, results have been not good for people, entire nations in fact.

A good book to read about this is Shock Doctrine, by Naomi Klien.

America is going through now what the UK went through under Thatcher. Well, has been for a long time. Fact is Clinton's economic policies weren't that different from Reagans.

Obama is on record as advocating increasing taxes on outsourcing companies doing business in America, and giving breaks to to those who employ locally.

With the price of fuel, it's only a matter of time before imports go down anyway.

But that being said, this is one reason as to why I think Obama differs from the others. See also the tax holiday.
