I suspect many of the people against this are just ra-ra Obama supporters. That's fine, but if you get close to him for one question, ask him about supporting "marijuana decrim". You can support and ask him to be a better representative to your wishes at the same time. In private or in public. Either way it works.
I am in NO WAY an Obama supporter. As much as the postion is unpopular around these parts, I'm a complete 180 from Obama and support McCain Obama's positions on gun control alone are enough to make me support anyone whose name isn't Obaam or Clinton. Thats just the tip of the iceberg as far as my deep dislike of Obama and what I believe he stands for. If you are going to attack what I have to say, you'll have to dig deeper than "I must be crazy about Obama" because nothing could be further from the truth. Click the link in my sig, and you'll find many of the reasons I ORIGINALLY disliked Obama....the reasons have expanded considerably since then, but that gives a good peek into what this allegedly "pro second amendment" politician is REALLY like. His voting record and what he tells people seems to distinctly clash with one another. here in SD, he was cheered when he said he supported the 2nd Amendment, yet anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together can look at his voting record and past opinions, and realize what a bald-faced LIE such a statement is. Calling either of the 2 democratic candidates "pro gun rights" is a laughable statment given their voting records and support of completely anti-gun legislation. The only reason they pander to gun owners at all is they are afraid of the 80 million legal gun owners in the US....without support from them, they won't be winning any elections. So, rather than speak on their true feelings regarding firearms, they either prance around the issue or simply lie about it. Democrats realized in 2000 making gun control a central issue in a Presidential election is political suicice, so instead they just avoid the issue as much as possible or lie about it if directly confronted on the issue.

You couldn't be more right. There are a lot of people who are deluding themselves into thinking that Barak is something more than your run of the mill politician. The only difference between him and Ted Kennedy is the color of their skin. Plus Barak didn't sink a girl to the bottom of a river either but thats a different story.

Can you explain your charge a bit more? A typical liberal, political-opportunistic candidate?

I still don't think he's as subject to the demands of lobbyists as Clinton or McCain. It's easy to smell the best when you're inside a dumpster with a bum that's been homeless for a couple months and smells a bit, and a disgusting, feces covered bum that screams 80s pop (I'll leave you to guess which is which).

I also believe that future historians will look at this epoch and recognize it as another instance of the 'madness of crowds.'"

Dying or a sick family member, ok. A politician? F that. No way, I have a spine, your pushing that same attitude/brainwashing of our elders that got us here.

America is toast.

You either deal with it or you are part of the problem!
So how does that world of yours look? Kind of convoluted? I imagine seeing in shades of only black and white must very much distort your vision. Brainwashing? Seriously?

Quote:
No, it's really not. The majority of voters support it. It's a no brainer for a politician with backbone and some integrity. Oh right they won't let us have one of those in office for President. Some democracy, I mean Republic, it isn't either, is it?
It's a democratic republic, maybe? Jake could answer you that. And anyway, as it's been said, not a majority of people support ending the drug war, and not a majority of the people support marijuana policy reform (unless you count medical marijuana, which is a separate tier than the recreational one when you get right down to it).

Quote:
Re-classifying marijuana is a great move that a legitimate President would and should do.
Re-classifying marijuana will give ammunition to plenty of talking heads, charging that the candidate is soft on crime and doesn't have the balls to be the head of our great kick-ass nation. Babysteps. If you think you'll see legalization any time soon, you're far off. The advent of the internet is certainly facilitating things, but I'd give it another generation before such legislation is even considered. It will be interesting to see how much support the decriminalization bill gets, but it will probably fail.

Quote:
Giving people a criminal record for life for one joint is extreme and cruel punishment for a non crime when every potential employer can see it.
How many states does this occur under? There you go, there's a goal. Spread awareness of key points where we think we can sway the vote towards reform. It won't happen on a wide scale, so narrow your scope a little.

Quote:
I'm at the point where I think the govt. needs to pay people like that reperations.

I'm serious about that.

Reperations to the people that have truly been screwed personally for no good reason at all, except greed.
Do you buy into the economic marijuana conspiracy theories? I'm sorry, but I highly disagree. Sheltered, ignorant people think it's a dangerous drug. Even a lot of DOCTORS think it's a dangerous drug. The awareness that it's not harmful and can be used easily in moderation (same as alcohol) needs to be brought forth to those who think smoking weed causes you to go insane, adopt amotivational syndrom, become dependent on a substance that could be life-threatening, etc.
