| No, not on drugs. Talking about drugs. In a piece in the U.K.'s Observer Music Monthly, he displays surprising comfort discussing drugs and drug use--a third rail topic for most celebrities. He acknowledges that the media loves the subject, wisely declining to get into detail about his personal choices. He says, "I'd fuel the fire, so forgive me." But then he goes on to talk in larger terms about the double standard of legal vs. illegal drugs. Some drugs haven't been legalised because it will ruin the other drugs, like nicotine and tobacco. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin. I'll leave the preaching to the preachers - my grandfather's a preacher - but I believe you don't do anything to excess. They always say too much of a good thing could be a bad thing. I try to live my life in a well-rounded manner. We all make mistakes.'He doesn't come out and mention the war on drugs, but it's nice to see the implication that governments might have motivations other than the well-being of the public. I can't help but wonder if he would have been as direct in an interview with the American press. A tip of the hat to Naomi, DPA's DC metro area director, for pointing out the piece.
