Who would've thought that a group of 3 to 5 year olds could somehow"show signs" of an early childhood drinking or illegal drug problem?

"Howpreschoolers behave may help predict whether they will drink alcohol oruse illegal drugs like marijuana in adolescence, research hints.

Ina long-term study, children who had less control over their behaviorand impulses between 3 and 5 years of age and those who gainedbehavioral control more slowly were more likely to drink alcohol at age14. They were also more likely to develop an alcohol problem and tryillicit drugs.

Moreover, adolescents with higher resiliency inearly childhood -- meaning they were flexible and could readily adaptto a changing environment -- were less apt to start drinking alcohol inthe early teenage years."

I can't help but think that I'dbe more than a bit outraged if a psychiatrist walked up to me and toldme my four-year-old was at risk for adolescent drinking and drug use.Here I was thinking his biggest problem was learning to tie his ownshoes.

It doesn't surprise me. I am an alcholic(dry for 20 yrs.) my father was, his father was, his father's father was etc. I believe pattern behavior can predict lots of things.
