| Your faxes are having a huge impact! The Senate Health and Budget Committees both passed Senate bill 494in the last month. This bill would allow for the establishment of up tosix municipal syringe access programs in New Jersey. Now the companionbill to S494 and our bill to allow for the non-prescription sale ofsyringes in pharmacies are both moving in the Assembly! On Thursday, October 19 at 10 AM, the Assembly Health and SeniorServices Committee will hold hearings on Assembly Bills 1852 and 2839.Help us get this life-saving legislation passed! Urge the members of the New Jersey Health and Senior Services Committee to vote yes on A1852 and A2839. New Jersey has the 5th highest number of adult HIV cases, the 3rdhighest number of pediatric HIV cases, and the highest proportion ofwomen infected in the nation. New Jersey's rate of infection related tothe sharing of contaminated syringes is almost twice the nationalaverage. More than 15,000 New Jerseyans have died from HIV/AIDScontracted from contaminated syringes. More than 15,000 other NewJerseyans are living with HIV/AIDS caused by the sharing ofcontaminated syringes. We have been fighting the battle againstHIV/AIDS in New Jersey with one hand tied behind our backs. It is timeto start fighting in earnest. It is time to pass sterile syringe accesslegislation! Pleasetake a moment to send a fax to the members of the Assembly Health andSenior Services Committee telling them to vote yes on this life-savinglegislation. I will continue to update you on the progress of our Campaign for aHealthier New Jersey Fall '06 Initiative and tell you how you cancontinue to support life-saving syringe access legislation in NewJersey. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, Roseanne Scotti Director Drug Policy Alliance New Jersey http://www.nooked.com/news/itemtrack...0e53148860315d More... |
