| Australian Push for Building Houses From Hemp 06-23-2008 | azobuild.com/news The Northen Star newspaper is reporting on Australian developments in building houses from ecologically sustainable hemp crops. They report that only need six to eight tonnes of hemp fibre is required to build a house. With that material being able to be grown on .5 hectare of land. Ms Marosszeky, director of Morrowby Futures, was one of about 50 people interested in growing a crop of hemp who met in Lismore on Saturday for a Hemp Co-operative meeting. The meeting established a committee to help the hemp industry get started on the North Coast. "We are hoping some farmers will start planting this year," Ms Marosszeky said. "People are more forward thinking here, so it makes sense that we are getting this industry started on the North Coast. "It's the way of the future, and it is time for Australia to follow the lead of countries like France and the UK, which have already got hemp industries up and running." A licensing scheme for growing industrial hemp is being developed by the NSW Government. |
