Cool KY: Second Man Sentenced for Largest Kentucky Marijuana Bust

KY: Second Man Sentenced for Largest Kentucky Marijuana Bust

7/01/08/ WBKO

The second of two men arrested in the biggest marijuana bust Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement has ever made is sentenced to three years in federal prison.

49-year-old Kermit Aber Garriques of Newburgh, New York pleaded guilty in December to trafficking more than 14-hundred pounds of marijuana.

This past February, Garriques' co-defendant Leon Anthony Bell of the Bronx, New York was sentenced to five years and 10 months in federal prison.

Garriques was the driver of a tractor-trailer KVE stopped on I-65 in May of 2007.

Bell was a passenger.

Inside the trailer was more than 14-hundred pounds of marijuana, with a street value of $2.8-million.

The pair was hauling the pot from Houston, Texas to sell in Ohio.

( This one put a dent in the local herb business for awhile, but it's back up and running even better now......... D)

Actually mummy weed is more expensive than that there. every now and then you can find some for around 25 a quarter oz but expect to pay around 40$ or so for some regular. i have family there and i get mad every time i need weed when my cousin tells me the price. she lives in a major city as well.

as for the story, how did they manage short sentences there? are the laws that laid back there? i mean i know it used to be one of the growing capitals of the century and all but seriously that's a short sentence compared to every other state it seems like.

The answers to these kind of questions always seem to be in the story, you just have to read between the lines.....

How did they know where they were getting it from in Texas and where it was heading? Sounds like someone made a deal to give out some info and sources he was working with. Remember a couple of weeks back I posted the article about a ton of marijuana being busted in Jackson, Ohio? There have been several pot busts here in the last few months that were of major quantities.

I guess it all is becoming clear to you guys, huh? There is no honor among theirves and certainly no caring about your fellows when your facing a twenty spot in prison for Trafficking. It seems our friendly neighborhood dealers were more than ready to tell everything they know about the whole operation. I can tell you that these two guys were merely delivery boys who were working for somebody else, so they probably are thinking cooperating is better than spending the rest of your life in prison.......especially when it's the better half.....

Sucks for him, but in my opinion anyone trying to sell that much weed is asking for trouble...

Too bad it has to be that way, eh?
