JAP: Tokyo Police Make Biggest Marijuana Bust

Japanese police arrested a man and a woman in Tokyo after discovering 180 kilograms of marijuana, the biggest haul in a single raid in Japan, Kyodo News reported, without saying where it obtained the information.

The two are suspected of violating the marijuana-control law, Kyodo said. One of the arrested is a director at a corporation, the report said, without identifying the individuals or company.

The street value of the illegal drugs was estimated at 720 million yen ($6.8 million), according to the report.

(A little over 1700 a lbs. I think these guys are getting back to reality a little bit on their estimates........ D)

That doesn't sound unreasonable.

In Japan, Marijuana is extremely expensive.

That's 396 Pounds, which is 179,622.58 grams, which comes out to 37.86 (rounded) dollars a gram.

I believe that Marijuana goes for around that, perhaps more (in the $50 a gram range).

Keep in mind, in Japan "Illegal search and Seizure" isn't a term used very often (read: Ever, afaik), and 98% of criminals are convicted.

The Japanese have no reason to lie about the value of marijuana because it already is very taboo over there. Thankfully certain US media outlets plan to start basing all estimates off of DEA STRIDE data which for the most part is much more accurate then price guesstimations from joe schmo sheriffs .
