Scuttlebutt suggests that there is a good chance that later in 2009 this may actually get out of committee. Since this is the first time since the 70's (78?) that they seem to actually be taking it seriously...It will be interesting to see what happens this time, what with a (hopefully) democratic congress and a (hopefully) democratic president.

Nothing will move forward unless people call or write their representatives and senators. It takes 2 minutes, but fuck all if we just "hope it passes" and don't tell our congress people to support it. Don;t hope.....fucking call or write.

congress.org type in your zip code and write to the representative and both senators. Also, I have found it much easier to call their office. Simply state - "I am calling to urge the congressman to support HR5843". They will ask your zip code and that's it. Done

Simple. If you want it to pass write!!!

Default Won't get on floor until next year

Actually, this bill won;t make it to the floor until after elections. So GW won;t be in the whitehouse anymore.

Currently the bill is headed to committee.

It is IMPERATIVE that you call and or write your congressman, or you can forget about it.

And don't think the bill doesn't have a chance. It VERY MUCH DOES.

It WILL NOT legalize or decriminalize marijuana for the whole US. It only changes the federal law.
Your state will still apply.

That is why so many people are for it. They do not want the government spending federal money on pot. It is stupid and none of the federal governments business.

This bill simple says the federal government should not be wasting its own resources on small amounts of pot, nd the issue will be left to states laws.
