| Couple Sues County Over Dead Marijuana Plants Masters' Use Marijuana For Medicinal Reasons 08-21-2008 | TheDenverChannel.Com A Fort Collins couple is planning to sue the city and Larimer County for more than $200,000 after police officers destroyed their 39 marijuana plants two years ago, according to the Fort Collins Coloradan newspaper. James and Lisa Masters had 30 plants confiscated in August 2006. Charges against the court were dropped after the Masters proved they used and sold marijuana for medicinal purposes. A judge ordered the marijuana plants be returned to the couple, but by then the plants were dead. The couple is seeking approximately $202,000, or $5,200 per plant. The Fort Collins Coloradan reported city officials will meet in the next two weeks to determine a response to the Masters' pending lawsuit. The city could offer the couple a settlement, offer to pay the entire claim amount, or decide to fight the claim in court. Pending that decision, city officials declined to comment. |
