| Health officials want public input on medical marijuana 08-25-08|KIRO Radio|By JEANNE LOCKHART Medical marijuana activists plan to pack a state Health Department hearing to protest limits on how much pot a patient can have. The state law currently limits patients with certain diseases to a 60-day supply of marijuana with a doctor's approval, but it does not define the supply. "There's been no guideline at all and that's been a real tough thing for people depending upon it for relief for medical conditions, and also for law enforcement because there's been no standard," said Donn Moyer spokesman for the state Department of Health. State officials once wanted to propose 35 ounces and 100 square feet of plant-growing area. But Gov. Chris Gregoire thought that was too high, and ordered the Health Department to meet with law enforcement. Afterward, the proposed limits dropped to 24 ounces of usable pot, along with six mature plants and 18 immature plants. Those are the same limits used in Oregon. After the public testimony is reviewed, there could be another change before a final proposal is presented to the state legislature. |

| Does anyone have practical experience with how these limits work? I ask because some of them don't make any sense to me. The proposed limits in the Michigan ballot initiative are 2.5 ounces and 12 plants. If carefully grown, each of those plants could produce 2.5 ounces or more of finished bud. You can legally grow 12 plants, you hang them up to dry, and suddenly you're in violation of the law because you've gone over the limit for "usable marijuana".

| Buzzby I'm with you, i say just let people have so many plants and what ever they can get off those plants is there limit. i mean this is trying to set limits on a apple tree saying you can only grow 20 apples per tree. I mean lets think about it, we may grow the same plant hell lets make it a clone, you get 5oz's and i may get 2oz's off the same planet. stupid government. |

| and plants outdoors the limits indicate that they will have to secure most of their medecine from licensed sources. The cost of providing for one patients during the year become outrageous. With many patients living on a poverty income provided by Social Security how do these laws serve those who use marijuanaas medecine? |

| This is why experience in growing is critical. In order to stay within those limits, whcih is only the maturing plants, I read that flowering not vegging, you would have to set up a perpetual harvest operation. Taking clones from mother plants and moving them through to flowering. And yes the way I see it this does kind of limit you to indoor growing operations. The way we are viewing the 2 1/2 oz limit is that is the amount you could have in your personal possesion. Patients and caregivers are allowed to 'give' to other patients, and recover reasonable expenses. We are working on plans to help make this happen as soon as it passes. I intend to be able to supply about 100 clones a week to help folks get started and there will not be much of any cost involved in that. This is our first experience with it, some tweaking may be necessary and there are provision in the initiative for a committee, and we have folks that will be on it, to monitor and recommend changes as the need arises. We are assembling lists of Doctor's that are familiar with cannibus treatment and we know there will be some that will set up shop in our State because they told us they are going to. If you are a Michign resident that wants to get more involved you can contact our group MichiganMedicalMarijuana@gmail.com Tell em VV sent ya. VV |
