| Personally, I think the most powerful depts in this country are the DEA and IRS. They are not going to allow any sudden moves that would result in the dismantling of their evil international money pit It wouldnt surprise me if one day a former DEA head runs for President and/or Congress and wins using illegal federal funding for the sole purpose of rolling back what we have accomplished since 1996 |

| I'm willing to bet that with in one year from today. That the fans of Obama will stop thinking of him as their boyfriend, best friend, and or long lost brother, and start thinking of him as a politician. I get so sick of people cheering him on for something he hasn't even done yet. That's a huge problem I see in America. That is that people well believe and get existed over someone who can use the Internet or give good speeches(which I think he doesn't..."...uh....uh....change...uh..."). I never liked Obama from the start. It's like I said, people give him far to much credit for something he hasn't done. But for what he has Quote:
Nothing from that video last month(or was it two?) surprised me what so ever. The fact he laughed only confirmed my suspicions about him. | |

| honestly, I believe massive burocracy is fucking this up. Hes not going to get a second election if this keeps happening. He's killing his support basis. In the election, he kept trying to get the usually non-voting younger population, who statistically, smoke marijuana more than older people. By backing down on a promise to sensibly look at legalization, he has alienated the people who gave him the boost. The Democratic party must make some sort of small move to legalization to impress these younger voters, to secure some sort of fan-base. The repubs are a die hard group of people. Ones an ass, always an ass. Democrats are a whole lot less die-hard hardcore people. To save the party, semi-legalization attempts must be carried out. decriminalize small amounts to start with (sub 5 grams say) and take it from there. I think the more progressive ideals that Obama stood for would be best served by doing this, along with saving taxpayers money So heres how I would do it. Decriminalize <5 grams. Remember that the whole idea of the drug war is to cut down on supply? Less than 5 grams isn't supply, so lets save some money prosecuting. If we can save a few billion that way, then the repubs are happy, and the democratic pot smokers are happy too. If that bill goes well, maybe in a few more years time we can decriminalize larger amounts. At the same time that would lend credibility to Medical Marijuana because some of the stigma would leave the plant.... so people wouldn't automatically assume weed = hard drugs. |

| Good post, but this is a common misconception. Obama has always been opposed to decrim and legalization, at least publically. Now, that being said, he is doing something that will probably lead to legalization, and what he's doing is NOTHING. He's not busting co-ops, he's not sending the head of ONDCP across the nation to oppose ballot measures, he's not actively holding the drug-war apparatus together, and thus it will fall apart due to lack of maintenance in time. Once people get talking, and - most importantly - THINKING - the worse prohibition looks. |
