Default Bulgarian Journalists become activists!

Police Arrest Journalists as They Bring 240 Marijuana Cigarettes in Parliament
BNN (Bulgaria) | 14:58 - 29.04.2004

SOFIA (bnn)- Police of Thursday arrested three journalists, who brought 240 marijuana cigarettes in parliament to protest outlawing possession of single doses of drugs for personal use.

Security guards seized Asen Asenov, editor-in-chief of the weekly magazine ‘Edno’ (One) and two his colleagues as they were dropping the 40th envelope with a marijuana cigarette in MPs' mail boxes in the parliamentary lobby. They were carrying a total of 240 such cigarettes _ one for each parliamentarian.

The three journalists were handed over to police briefly after. They may be sentenced to up to ten years in prison if found guilty of illegal drug possession and distribution.

The action was meant to protest a bill, which parliament recently passed to incriminate any possession of drugs. Possession of one individual dose was legal before.

The bill has drawn angry outcry among drug addicts and human rights activists, who have alleged it unduly punished drug victims instead of drug Mafia.

[zombienote: Despite the research around the world that marijuana is safer then many of the foods we eat, it still seems that repressing it is more important than ever, as well as more important than most anything else]

Default The bill has drawn angry outcry among drug addicts and human rights activists,

Ok so because someone smokes a little pot they consider them a drug addict? What about people who have smoked cigarettes all their life and can't quit, do we call them a drug addict? As for being sentenced up to 10 years, they might not even serve one. In the U.S they give b/s sentencing all the time saying someone can serve up to 7 years if found guilty, but if it's their first offence they don't end up serving anytime because they just take a drug/alcohol program and have it removed from their record after a year one the program is complete.

The only downside to taking a drug/alcohol program to avoid jail time is they take the percentage of the people who go to those classes and say yup such and such people were treated for marijuana addiction in such and such years so it tells us too many people are getting addicted and we have to do more to get it away from the public!

People shouldn't even be arrested for pot in the first place, theres no reason why they can't legalize it and just have the same rules that apply for alcohol use apply to marijuana use. No one has ever died from smoking straight pot. Most of these countries that ban it, especially the U.S invest lots of money into stopping it from getting onto the streets and they have failed and they don't admit it. They will never stop drug use no matter what type. They need to concentrate on more serious crimes and not people who chose to smoke a little grass once in awhile.
