Police raid several grow-ops

The Edmonton Police "Green Team" is at it again, blitzing the city in a number of successful drug raids.

The team dismantled six major marijuana grow operations in Edmonton Thursday.

One of them was found at 83rd Street and 42nd Avenue where $860,000 worth of pot plants were seized.

Earlier in the day, police busted another home on Lee Ridge Road in south Edmonton. That house had $700,000 worth of marijuana, or 669 plants in various stages of growth.

It was the sixth marijuana grow operation police have uncovered in the last 24 hours.

In Lee Ridge Road bust, sophisticated equipment was used and electricity was being stolen.

Neighbours on say a family moved into the house a year and a half ago.

They say they could smell a sweet odour around the home, but assumed the occupants were cooking.

The "Green Team" also raided several other homes in the last 24 hours.

They raided a home on John's Road, but officers haven't confirmed how much was seized. They're still on scene.

On Wednesday, officers recovered $20,000 worth of marijuana at a home on 36th Avenue and 86th Street.

Only a couple of blocks away, police discovered more than $100,000 worth of cash and bank drafts.

Another $80,000 in cash and drafts was discovered at another home on Lee Drive.

Police have laid several charges against five people, ranging from 31 to 55 years of age.
