Nope, still don't buy it. This particular mess is one persons disregard for human life. If legal there would still be people who would rather steal it than put in the time/expense to grow it themselves.
This person's mindset is just as Niteshift stated, imho. It would be the same legal or not.

I am already committing a felony by growing. Just doesn't make sense to me to add on from there.

But legal or illegal, stolen crop or not, I would never rig something that could hurt anyone.

I think we are talking about the same thing in 2 different ways.

I totally concur. The man would have justified harming people in other settings too.

when relegalized and cannabis becomes more commonplace, and the value plumments, the overall desire to invade a home simply to steal it will diminish appreciably.
Agreed.

And not just the value, 'cause I am sure it will be taxed out of this world, but the paranoia of growing yourself and the problem of going to prison if necessary. I am sure that stops a lot of people. If it ever gets to where you can grow your own, legally, the theft rate should plummet...Except for that hardcore base. It never changes, it seems.

By this line of thinking there would not be any moonshiners. Alcohol IS LEGAL! So why do these dudes sometimes use deadly force to protect their stills? If a cop used deadly force on a simple thief it would be WRONG and he should be prosecuted. Same with growers, and yes moonshiners too...
Anyone try white lightning? It is a breath taking experience!

Yeah . . . deaths at moonshine stills are a major problem these days.

Well maybe ol Snuffy Smith aint pegged anyone by his still lately but moonsine is STILL big. Just 3 days ago in Statenville Ga. (Is Doc from around there?) police found 2 stills and 12 mj plants. The stills were estimated to contain 135 5 gallon containers of moonshine. It was reported that a shot was fired. I found this with a quick Yahoo news search for moonshine. Check it out.
My point is that if marijuana were to be legalized, it would be taxed like alcohol is. And like alcohol, there will be people illegally producing it to avoid the taxes. The driving force here is GREED.
You are probably correct, HH. There are few fatalities at the stills. I suspect most of the deaths occure AFTER folks drink this stuff...
Oh, look at the time. I have to get on down to the Native American tobacco shop for the tax free cigs! Just kidding! I quit smoking over a year ago...
