| HEMP DEBATE RAGES ON FOR BREAM HUNTERS www.thisisderbyshire.co.uk | Saturday May 8, 2004 A LOOK AT THE LOCAL ANGLING SCENE WITH PAUL DENNIS Big bream are still feeding with the prospect of double-figure fish from quite a few venues. There are a couple of club waters along the A38 corridor that boast bream of that size, though it is usually a night fishing job to catch them. Specialist anglers approach big bream in a very different way to match anglers, which might be expected as they are generally fishing for fewer catches. However, the fish are bigger and can put away quite a large amount of food given the opportunity, so baiting needs to be tailored accordingly. As well as getting fish used to certain feed items, regular groundbaiting encourages them to return to an area time and again. Particles in the form of seeds and kernels form a serious part of the specialists feed, but even here there is a difference of opinion. Some anglers like to use hemp in the mix while others prefer to leave it out, although the consensus is that it does no harm. Fish are contrary creatures and regularly prove anglers' preciously-held opinions wrong, so it is no surprise that the hemp conundrum doesn't look like being easily solved. I suppose my argument against the seed would be that it is oily and cannot help but release oil, which therefore makes the feed mix active, something that big bream are supposed to be none too keen on. However, it is difficult to think of anything more oily than trout pellets and bream absolutely love them, taking us right back to square one. [zombienote: 25,001 uses for hemp.]

| It is because fishermen/women here in Europe have used hempseeds for centuries that it is legal to sell hemp seeds in the stores in France, the UK etc... Its our little legal loophole. Of course here in Paris you can go to the store and get Skunk #1 seeds to go fishing with, about 100 varieties of seeds from Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands etc. The catch is here in France and in the UK it is written "do not germinate" on the seed packets.PS it just so happens that the same store sells grow lamps though ![]() |
