It's a leter to the editor SL. that is why it is short and sweet...

We live in a country where delusion is prominent...

Somnambulistic is probably a better descriptive term... (I had to look it up too)

Thumbs down the second amendment

Hey Mike . . . Bush can't protect you from anything. All he can do is hand you a list of excuses as to why he's ineffective at everything he and his administration tackles. Go buy a gun while you still have second amendment rights and protect yourself. Welcome to America.

The second amendment is probably the most misquoted amendment to the constitution. It reads, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Many folks want to ignore the first 13 words and jump in at. "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
This basically ignores the intent of the founding fathers for whom a standing army was to be avoided at all costs. This also ignores the fact that the state of the art in weaponry was a single shot rifle that if you were an expert, you might get off 3 shots a minute with. They would freak out if they ever saw an AK-47 or M-16!
National defence would be handled by the state "militia." Of course, the US ultimatly created a standing army, navy, etc.
Over the years, when gun control laws were enacted, they were appealed as being unconstitutional. New York City, for example put strict limitations on who could carry a weapon. It was appealed to the Supreme Court and the law stood. The same thing happed about ten years later (around 1936) when the government had the nerve to say not just anyone could have fully automatic weapons, aka MACHINE GUNS!
Yeah HH, most people think the second amendment GUARANTEES them the right to go out and get a gun but the courts have said otherwise. Brady bill, waiting periods, local laws... sorry...

Heh, a standing militia is a great idea. What country is it where a militia is all that exists? People serve a short term in training, and then are issued their own weapon. Everyone in the country has a gun and knows how to use it. Is it the Swiss?

Imagine how much money we could save if our military was comprised of everyone in the country.

Remember we spend more on our war machine than our allies and enemies combined.

Sounds like the makings of a global corporate takeover...

The only weapons I have are an old black powder shotgun that will not fire modern ammo, and a 22 rifle that belonged to my great grandfather. While in the military I never qualified less than expert, and in Korea in the middle of winter with snow on the ground, and my first experience with the M-16 A-2, I fired 40 out of 40. Hawkeye.

I love target practice, but seriously doubt that I could actually shoot a person. I'd rather leave here with a clean soul than stick around and defile it in order to lengthen my stay in this limited reality.

Killing is bad for ones soul, I'm just sure of it...

If it came to defending this land from an invading force, I'd likely rethink that sentiment though.

I much prefer a militia to a standing army. If every nation had an effective defensive militia, no one would be invading anyone else, and if someone did, they would have an effective militia to deal with...

Peace!

Ummmmm . . . I don't see me stating otherwise anywhere. You are aware that we do have a second amendment right to bear arms, right? Whether the reason for this is for a creating militia or not, the right remains. You're probably also aware that any adult American non-felon can go buy a gun (even if they have to wait three days to receive it) right?

That's all that is required for my statement of "Go buy a gun while you still have second amendment rights and protect yourself" to be true. I didn't see me mis-interpreting the second amendment anywhere (in fact, I didn't even offer an interpretation) so why you've directed the lecture towards me is a mystery.

Smile Hy HH

Sorry if it seemed like I was lecturing. That was not my intention. What I was trying to say is that the world is very different now than it was in the 18th century when the second ammendment was written. The nation was to be defended with militias, meaning armed citizens. The US has long since utilized a professional army.
What I should have said is my personal belief that there are too many darn guns in the USA. If someone needs protection like, say, David Crosby (busted for toting a loaded .45 in NYC) how about something NONLETHAL like pepper spray?
Rember, guns don't kill people. People with GUNS kill people.
PEACE

Default Truth

When was the last time you saw this commercial?:

G O V E R N M E N T
my anti-drug

Never! you never saw this in a truth commercial because even the government's special, well-paid-to-lie organizations can not tell such a great falsehood. Come on now, like our Government is what kept little Billy from buying a dime bag, or poor young Stacy from snorting some X. TRUTH is that Billy's concience is what kept him for drug use or the fear of his dad kicking the living hell out of him. Personally a Texan man, making up words, and playing hide and go seek with terrorists with our tax dollars, IS NOT WHAT APPEARS ON MY SHOULDER BEFORE A NICE BONG HIT AND MAKING ME REALIZE....OH! DRUGS REALLY ARE BAD....WOW! MAYBE I SHOULD GO TO THE BAR NOW AND GET LEGALLY WASTED!!!! The real TRUTH is that the WAR ON DRUGS should go into a dark corner and cry.

Bush is a puppet, he is continuing the war his father started, both on the foriegn and domestic front. Why do you think he goes to the western white house, or whatever its called all the time. He goes for reprogramming, its bush 2.0 the beta version. Bush is controlled by his father and his pastor. He consideres drugs to be immoral just as his Dad did in his term. George Bush senior spent the most money on the war on drugs, and his son snorted coke!

So Mike, yes, he has done more for the WOD for the pure and simple reason that he has not done anything to alieve the war on drugs. Now, i don't know what John Kerry's policy on the WOD is, but i hope it is a hell of a lot better than the Bush robot.
