FTR, if people would take five minutes from their day and suggest Professor David Nutt (the guy who was sacked from the CMD) as a pannelist on Question Time (featured on the BBC) using the form at the bottom of this page we might get some real, mainstream discussion of this issue and the issue of the War on Drugs in general.

Hashishi, I took TEN minutes out of my day for that.

I left a suggestion that briefly told who Nutt is, why he was fired, Gordon Brown saying "we need to get tougher on drugs", my own belief that prohibition doesn't work, and just for good measure I suggested that politics shouldn't trump science. Credit goes to MestUp7 for that.

It does not take anyone long too recognize that Mr Brown is not attacking marijuana as much as he is protecting his gin. With all the scientific evidence,
history and common knowledge of the damage that tobacco and alcohol has done to our society,the alcoholics are actually worried that alcohol will go back on the prohibition list.At least if the prohibitionist go after alcohol,they don't have too buy studies,create myths and skew statistics too show that alcohol is dangerous too society.

Since always. You might have noticed that politicians run the world while scientists work in their labs and are often dependent on government grants (mediated by politicians) to do their work.

That's why President Obama's promise to base laws on science rather than ideology is considered to be a breakthrough.

The words have been spoken but his actions and the 8 months it took for his Attorney General to have someone type up a 3 page memo convinces me that it is more smoke and mirrors from our government. If they were going to let science decide,why haven't the gone back too the Institute Of Medicine study that tax dollars paid for,and rescheduled marijuana from schedule 1 as they suggested. As a matter of fact,every government study since 1972 has recommended decriminalization and that marijuana
is not a harmful enough drug to be schedule 1. With 13 states that have doctors using marijuana as a medicine,where is the science that keeps marijuana schedule 1?
