Default Looking good canada :)

I went and helped fill the hill.

Hopefully the U.S. will follow suit, and I can help fill capital hill
Of course they would prolly call in the army on us "crazy dope smoking madmen"

btw, to all who went, I was the taller guy with long black hair, black shirt, black pants, who was front and center when they asked how many people from the states were there. I kinda jumped up and screamed a bit

Question Can I still get to freedom by bus?

We have seen from they who came before us, those many who were discriminated against and overcame the odds. We have witnessed some courageous acts of nonviolent civil disobedience in the last century that has effected tremendous positive change for humanity. There have been some Great Leaders to show us the way. Is our cause in the same class as some from the past? I would have said no if you asked when i was just boarding that bus for the ride to Ottawa. I would have been wrong ‘cause at midnight when we left, I had no idea I boarded the bus to freedom. Like many in history who committed their own nonviolent protests, this one too started with a bus ride and a dream. The bus was like Noah’s Arc, but only we had one of everything represented it seemed, a good cross section of decent and giving individuals, all going to speak up for their own reasons. Our destination was Parliament Hill 4:20!

The bus had a smoking section, which was everything but, the first 3 rows of the bus. The folks were generous with the passing of the joints, pipes and bongs. It wasn’t very long before your next hit from a new friend. Not much drinking going on, a few beers but that’s to be expected for the ride. We were there for the smoke, we're not all drinkers, we’re all pot heads.

4:20am on the bus was something to see everyone with something to smoke. It was going to be a hot box, so I was told. No windows open on the bus and the only thing burning is weed. I’m in! Driving into the sunrise was something spectacular. An artist sitting a couple of rows in front of me had been sketching in the darkness. The morning light revealed the perfect image of what I had been watching all night, the tail end of the first bus.

I got to the Hill early so I could do my customary walk around. Queen Victoria is my first stop, a favourite place, it’s quiet and there’s a great view. Under a tree I see an all too familiar picnic table. I’ve seen that rickety old table at every campground I’ve ever rolled a joint at. It was calm and quiet and I decided to sit down and roll a joint. I took out my kit and spun me a rocket, cleaned up and headed for the bench in the shade of the tree.

Looking at the monument I sat there and contemplated whether this was the right thing to do. I paused and looked down only to see 2 roaches. I take it as a good sign and spark it up.

The National War Memorial is another must see when I’m in town. I like to make the effort to pay my respects at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The bronze men on the memorial are amazing and seem to come to life, when you look each of them in the eye as you move to the relative area to make the connection. There’s an inviting shady grass area that I go to crash for a while. It’s not long before I fired up another rocket on the road to freedom.

12:30 I pay a visit to the Eternal Flame. I didn’t use it to get a light though.

1:PM I grab a spot on the lawn, close enough to see and hear it all.

I want to thank all who organized this, for giving me my first taste of freedom.

To the evil itch:
This event took place in Ottawa, Ontario, which is Canada's Washington, D.C. and the event was on the front lawn in front of the Parliament building. Parliament means Canadian government. Here's a pic of the Parliament building...

Qwiz! Where's the rest of your story? That was good, I want to hear about the speeches and the ride home!

Good for you Potshot! I missed that, it was hard to hear everything. Some speakers' voices at the beginning were hard to hear. The crowd was noisier then too. Was it worth the trip Potshot, would you do it again next year?

So how many people did show up?
At the peak time in the middle of the afternoon, it was about 3000.

Default Canadians RULE!!

I had a MAGNIFICENT time at Fill the Hill.

I had originally planned to attend and speak at the Ohio Hempfest, but due to the problems they ran into at the last minute and the uncertainty about whether the Ohio event would happen, Marc decided to bring me to Ottawa instead.
I was more than happy to oblige that request.

I met tons of people from the Cannabis Culture forums. Let's see if I can remember them all.

guardian99 (Jody Pressman, Marc's Press Agent) and SexyTalonDriver (Crystal LeBlanc who is an NDP candidate.)

Chris and Melissa Goodwin ,SueTaz (provided a yummy joint), Alison Myrden (NDP Candidate), Tim Meehan, Whirlwind (gave me a great pot leaf suncatcher that he made), MRNICE, Quazy420, Buzzworthy, KindRedSpirit,Chris Hagglund, FrankDiscussion (who gave me a great shirt)

I think I am more well known in Canada than I am in the US. I signed no less that 150 autographs and every few minutes someone was walking up to me to hand me fabulous joints or a T-Shirt and something they had made for me and wanted me to have.

My favorite gift is one that a girl gave me after I spoke. I made it a point to call the leaders of the US IMPERIALIST BASTARDS and the crowd went wild.
So as I leave the stage she walks over and says "I make these shirts and I would be honored if I could give one to you"
And she pulls out this black T-shirt with BUSH painted across the front except the S is replaced by a Swastika.
It ROCKS!!!

The American Customs Agent didn't think so though. They gave me a lot of trouble coming back into the US . Even donned the rubber gloves like the ones seen in the Texas prison abuse videos. Searched all of my stuff.
Almost made me miss my flight.
The guy was trying so hard to be an intimidating asshole.
But, I am not very easy to intimidate and I rather enjoy the mental battle one must engage in with Customs from time to time.
Keeps my faculties sharp.

"So you got any of that mess on you?" he asks.

"What mess would that be?" I asked

"Marijuana, pot, hash, seeds?" he says

"Of course not!" I fire back. "Do you honestly think that someone like me who travels across the country and comes in and out of Canada a great deal, keeps a very high public political profile and risks their freedom daily would be stupid enough to try and smuggle pot in any of it's various forms out of Canada? Let's be reasonable."

"Well do you smoke the stuff...did you smoke or buy or were you given anything while you were here?"

"Ha Ha....well maybe and maybe not...I don't have my attorney here so I am not going to answer that and since you can't make me piss in a cup or draw blood from me then you'll just have to assume that the answer is no."

He proceeds to open my little handbag where I keep all of my ID and he comes across my business cards.

"What's this?" he demands (although a bit more timidly this time and it was painfully obvious what they were )

"It's my business card"

"May I have one?"

"Sure, although I am sure US Customs knows exactly who I am and there isn't anything on that card that isn't already in your system....but sure take one."
"Can, I go now before I miss my flight?"

"Yes mam, I'll take your bag back to the plane for you. Have a nice day."

Very odd.
It is usually Canada that gives me hell. The last two times I crossed the Canadian border I had ZERO problems though.
Was kinda hoping the US would say
"You are no longer welcome in this country and will have to stay in Canada."
Alas, they cleared me and allowed me to carry on.
I fear that the next time I try to leave the US it may be a different story and they won't let me out!

I had not planned to speak because I didn't have time to prepare anything. But I was added to the list and I thuroughly enjoyed addressing the crowd.
Canadians are the coolest people on earth. Laid back and polite and just all around more reasonable that your average US white citizen.

All of the Canadian activists have my deepest admiration and respect. All of their hard work paid of very well yesterday at FTH. It was a HUGE success.

Jody and Crystal, Chris and Melissa, Alison Myrden and all of the others who are actively seeking office for the NDP, helping to organize and campaign....It will pay off and come June 29th I expect to see some new faces representing Canadians.

Long Live Canada and all of her great people!!!

Loretta

It was an awesome surprise to see you there Loretta and I'm damn glad I got to meet you! You are always welcome in Canada! You were right about those Imperialistic bastards, I think the whole continent hates the US government, but definitely not all Americans.

Cool The Way I Saw It

While I was rolling on the May 24 table I could hear a high powered,
helicopter overhead. When I finished rolling my J, headed for the bench
and I got a descent look at it, I could only think that the machine I saw, was
not bought with my tax dollars. That thing had foreign plates if you ask me.
It soon left for environmental reasons, running low on fuel and the area was
quiet again. Looking down I knew it was time to spark it up.

The MC was well chosen, well spoken and brought a great deal of
professionalism and credibility to the event. Well done!

Sparked up my first joint in full view of the RCMP taking video of the crowd.
The Officers seemed to be interested in the man with the rather large
houseplant. For some reason, I suspect he too came by bus.

Someone from the crowd started to video the RCMP. The Lads were tolerant,
professional, got the pics they needed, packed up their chit and split, for the
most part.

One of the Speakers had a green, pot leafed, cat in the hat, hat and was to
deliver a poem. He reminded me of your Dad’s older brother or distant old
uncle, who knew the ways of the past. This was one of the speakers I
hoped I would see. I admit my knowledge is limited when compared to how
much can be done with the plant. I don’t know who that was but he did a
great job under the circumstances and delivered a tone of information that
should be shared with all.

I watched the poor guy, struggle with the dead microphone until he got some
help, the glitch was taken care of and he was live now, he forgets the first
line. He starts a poem and realizes it’s not the right one… Before going any
further and make a bad situation worse in his own mind, he fesses up to the
crowd, comes clean, no harm done, he just forgot his first line. He looks to
the crowd for support, his hand open and grasping. “I need the first line, I
forgot my line.” The line bounces out of the crowd in a whisper and he’s off
with his tale. Great poem! Could you please tell me who this was and the
name of the poem?

Alan Young was another Speaker I wanted to hear from for the legal point of
view. The information I gathered was that what I was doing was still illegal.
I could however be proud, and stand up for a Just Cause, through an
Honourable Act of Civil Disobedience.

The pothead, stole the show, you know, that one high school buddy, level
headed kid your mom wanted you to hang with, ‘cause he never got into too
much trouble. He’s the polite one, was everyone’s bud, he could hang tight
with any group in school. You could trust him, he was always looking out for
you, laugh yourself silly with the guy. Sorry about the stereotype but we
all know this guy from back in the day. He was just plain making sense
about the whole issue. He made us feel proud to just be who we are and
celebrate it. Thanks for that!
