I see your point - searching for no reason, that is something different. But if there is a probable cause (ie: gun taken to school, drugs in school, etc.) and they don't know who is to blame for something that has to do with the entire student body - it is something that needs delt with. You said it yourself - facilities for education - that is school. I think that drugs primarily deal with high school students (9th thru 12th), but it shouldn't matter. Kids are experimenting with drugs and other adult things earlier and earlier and schools NEED to keep their students safe. Plain and simple.

Yes probable cause is something tottaly different (somebody calls in about a gun or something then the everybody could be searched). This is just my opinion but it's not the schools that need to educate the kids about "adult things" but the parents or even the community. The important thing is, its wrong to FORCE kids to do something just because they are kids. Also, most are not at all in the dark about these "adult things". Kids today know alot more than you may think even at a very young age.
