You want to get the Mental Health Commission Report here

HA! I copied and pasted the above and it came out just like that!!
I left it as is because Bush and his people are CCCRrraaaazy!

Quote:
In a transformed mental health system, the early detection of mental health problems in children and adults — through routine and comprehensive testing and screening — will be an expected and typical occurrence.

At the first sign of difficulties, preventive interventions will be started to keep problems from escalating. For example, a child whose serious emotional disturbance is identified early will receive care, preventing the potential onset of a co-occurring substance use disorder and breaking a cycle that otherwise can lead to school failure and other problems. Quality screening and early intervention will occur in both readily accessible, low-stigma settings, such as primary health care facilities and schools, and in settings in which a high level of risk exists for mental health problems, such as criminal justice, juvenile justice, and child welfare systems.

Both children and adults will be screened for mental illnesses during their routine physical exams.

For consumers of all ages, early detection, assessment, and links with treatment and supports will help prevent mental health problems from worsening. Service providers across settings will also routinely screen for co-occurring mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

Early intervention and appropriate treatment will also improve outcomes and reduce pain and suffering for children and adults who have or who are at risk for cooccurring mental and addictive disorders.
This is there recommendations:
Quote:
4.1 Promote the mental health of young children. 4.2 Improve and expand school mental health programs. 4.3 Screen for co-occurring mental and substance use disorders and link with integrated treatment strategies. 4.4 Screen for mental disorders in primary health care, across the lifespan, and connect to treatment and supports.
Well looks like Bush doesn't have a shot in hell of getting this part done
Quote:
Giving consumers the ability to participate fully in their communities will require a few essentials:
• Access to health care,
• Gainful employment opportunities,
• Adequate and affordable housing, and
• The assurance of not being unjustly incarcerated.
Doesn't sound like the world of Bush at all.

Quote:
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 154 is designed to help all children, including those with serious emotional disturbances reach their optimal potential and achievement. To fulfill the promise of this Act, schools must work to remove the emotional, behavioral, and academic barriers that interfere with student success in school.
Consequently, it is critical to strengthen mental health programs in schools.
This effort may involve:
• Working with parents, local providers, and local agencies to support screening, assessment, and early intervention;

• Ensuring that mental health services are part of school health centers;

• Ensuring that these services are Federally funded as health, mental health, and education programs;

• Building on a recommendation from the President’s Commission on Excellence in Special Education to implement empirically supported prevention and early intervention approaches at the school district, local school, classroom, and individual student levels; and

• Creating a State-level structure for schoolbased mental health services to provide consistent State-level leadership and collaboration between education, general health, and mental health systems.
They sure make it sound like its all for our own good.
But I distrust anything they do these days.

You'll note I highlighted lots of student stuff, because these are the people who can not escape the system, if they are in school, they are going to get screened, if they are having a bad day or week, they are going to get "treated". If parents don't buy the kid the drugs the doctors say to buy, then the state is going to claim child endangerment.

I would agree with this except for the fact that Texas as a very similar thing going right now and recently Virginia's government admitted to doing the exact same thing that Bush proposes for nearly a hundred years. Only difference in Virginia is that up untill 1996 forced sterilizations were also included in the treatment prossess. It should also be noted that Virginia's criteria for determining your mental health deteriorated significantly over this time.

Let's not let our smokey glasses tint our thinking to much.

I am a strong proponent of early mental testing. I have a couple of people close to me go through some very trying times with mental illness at the heart of the matter. In one case it was caught early by a very astute juvie police officer and was treated and resolved for the benefit of all involved. The other case went undiagnosed for over 30 years will some very unpleasent results.

Just cause your paraniod doesn't mean they are ALWAYS out to get you.

Any new legislation should be looked upon with a scrupulous eye and should be challanged for every possibility that could result from said legislation.

I find it kind of funny that your a strong proponent of this testing and you know these people with problems yet you throw around garbage like this....

That's cool man, it was nice of you erase any doubts I had as to your disposition .

I am not a big "take care of everyone all the time" kind of guy. But nothing in the linked information looks particularily frightening.

You jumped to the "instead of perpetuating the pharmaceutical giants..." conclusion. Nothing in what I have read looks to pander to the "pharmaceutical giants" yet that was your first conclusion.

In fact, the final report (thx iGame3D) was very critical of the "pharmaceutical giants" favorite distribution channel - your local General Practice Doc.

Show me where, in this report, it justifies your consp... conclusion.

Here in my neck of the woods they refer to Intervention Programs -- to find and help individuals with mental health difficulties -- difficulties such as repeated arrests of the Mentally Ill to get them into Diversionary programs and just this week Governor John Ellis (JEB) Bush signed into law some additional legislation to assist in keeping noncomplaint patients on their medication through more methods of community action in association with the police force.

Now I don't have a problem with these programs because they are assisting people who desparately need assistance.

But they are also classifying and locating and making lists of all these folks and that does tend to make my skin crawl just a tad -- because I am paranoid. I get a kind of deja vu -- a slight reminiscence back to 1938 Germany when the first wave of "cleansing" was to clear out the Asylums of all the "nut cases".

Being a certified nut case myself, and taking another look see --- this just looks like too familiar a pattern.

...have a nother cookie
