| Mascot weeded out of Regina fair By CP | Calgary Sun | August 12, 2004 REGINA -- Headly the Hemp Leaf's first Buffalo Days parade may be his last after the mascot for a hemp products store was taken out of the event. Tim Selenski, owner of Head to Head Novelties, said he followed all the rules to be in the annual parade, where he was dressed in a custom-made, bright-green, 3.7-metre-tall outfit that resembles a pot plant. "Four blocks we walked (in the parade) and one of the co-ordinators said 'There are too many complaints, please leave,'" said Selenski, who was accompanied in the parade by two friends driving a car with a hemp-leaf flag. [Greenbudnote: I doubt any of the spectators were complaining...] The parade was held Saturday and included entries from community groups and local businesses, ranging from a Knights of Columbus float to the Hillybilly Vac Shack mascot. Selenski said he was using the parade to help advertise his store that sells hemp products, medicinal and marijuana paraphernalia. Tom Balkwill, one of the parade marshals, said the mascot's presence was brought to his attention by two police officers. "Our information was that it was not hemp, that it was depicting a marijuana leaf and we were not in the position to be promoting marijuana as parade organizers," he said. [Greenbudnote: I have a feeling that if he had dressed up as a green maple leaf that they'd call it marijuana too. And WTF? This is Canada! I thought the atmosphere was a little more tolerant of pot than in the States.] "We made the decision that no, we did not wish to have that in the parade." [Greenbudnote: Musta been because of "the chiiiiillllddren".]

It's a shame that hemp and cannabis are so closely related. Any pro-hemp event is going to be associated with marijuana by the public. A 3.7m tall hemp leaf was bound to attract attention. I wish I could have seen it. Anyone have a picture? ![]()

What a publicity stunt and it went off splendidly! This little head shop just got more publicity in 15 minutes than it could ever afford if it had to pay for it! Wonder if they'd like to advertise here? That would be: Head to Head Novelties In a small backward town called Regina, near Calgary Canada And we'd need to contact the woner , that would be: Tim Selinski (repeated that in the article SELENSKI) Gotta LOVE that 12 foot tall custom made bright green HEMP LEAF (note mascot Hemp Leaf Flag) he wore. I love Hemp as well as Marijuana as well as Seeds -- haven't quite figured out if there is anything to do with the roots yet. It is all Canabis. Hemp fiber makes gret cloth, paper. Hybridize the plant and the flower, the marijuana, is excellent to smoke. The seeds can provide both cooking, cosmedic, and burning oil -- and probably a replacement for fossil fuels. Check out the link to the Calgary paper -- great read, lots of pot references (look at the RV article as an example) Hugz, Mama Budz

*sigh* Regina is the capital city of Saskatchewan, hardly some small backward town and it isnt even in the same province as Calgary, let alone near it. ![]()

| Canadian Provinces are easily comparable to the United States, we just don't have as many provinces as you do states. British Columbia is comparable to California in their relaxed attitudes and modern thinking and are leading the way in Canada. Alberta and Saskatchewan are more like Alabama and Texas in their ranching, religious, backwards ways and are probably the most oppressive in their attitudes towards drugs out of the whole country. Manitoba, I don't know much about. Ontario and Quebec are the most populated provinces and people have more open minds about drug use, but not quite as open as BC. The Eastern provinces, I think, are sort of in the middle, not as oppressive as Alberta and Saskatchewan, but not as forward thinking as BC. Saskatchewan is probably one of the worst provinces, so the fact that they kicked Headly the Hemp Leaf out of the parade. No guts. The parade officials didn't have the guts to tell Headly the Hemp Leaf he couldn't be in the parade well in advance and they didn't have the guts to tell the complainers that he had every right to be in that parade. They took the easy way out and only had to tell one person bad news instead of all the complainers. I have no respect for this. If his business is a legitimate business, he has every right to advertise it in a parade like anyone else.
