Default Juvenile tattoo ring busted

Police find juvenile tattoo ring

Sept 1, 2004 | Washington Times

Baileyville, ME, Sep. 1 (UPI) -- A tattoo of the number 420, which reportedly has to do with smoking marijuana, led police to a juvenile tattoo ring in Baileyville, Maine.

A 17-year-old was questioned and police were seeking anyone who may have been marked by his crudely built tattooing machine, the Bangor Daily News reported Wednesday.

The investigation began a few months ago when a woman found 420 tattooed on her 13-year-old son's ankle.

"It supposedly represents 'it's time to go smoke a joint,'" Baileyville School Resource Officer Shawn Newell said. "I don't know why anyone in their right mind or stable mind would want to have 420 tattooed on their arm or ankle knowing what it means."

[Greenbudnote: Would he rather see "White Power" or "666" tattooed instead? Personally, I'd be proud to wear a "420" tattoo myself.]

Police said the high school student built a primitive tattoo machine using batteries, a stripped down electric razor and black India ink. The teenager said he loaned the machine to friends who tattooed themselves.

[Greenbudnote: Being the owner of three large, custom tattoos, all done by a professional artist (and registered nurse), I do not recommend anyone getting any ideas from this article. These "jailhouse" tattoos are easy to botch if they are done by an inexperienced person, and there's nothing quite like a blurry, faded, permanent stain on your arm that will be all but unrecognizable in a few years. Besides, hepatitis is very real, very common, and very incurable. Wait until you are 18, for Pete's sake, then you can have "420" tattooed across your forehead if you want. ]

Just to second that... I have a tattoo and I would be very proud to wear 420
But definately wait till your of age... and take care of your tattoo... so you dont end up a 45year-old with faded tattoos

I would never have "420" tattooed on my body. I would be very pissed if my (imaginary) 13 year-old came home with one on his leg. Of all the sweet tats out there what is so appealing about 3 numbers as a tattoo?

Tattoos are ugly, IMO. I don't see why anyone would want ink under their skin for a lifetime.

'Guess I can't talk, though... I have a big, noticeable hole in my earlobe that I'll have for the rest of my life.

It's just skin. When you die it's all going to rot off ya anyway.

That must really annoy all the shallow people that judge a person based on their earlobes.

Default 13

A long, long, time ago, 13 was the difinitive number. It stood for m, the thirteenth letter of the alphabet and the first in marijuana.

Seems like as many or more females are getting tats these days. Not being judgemental, you understand; just an observation. But then again I am much more likely to observe the ladies...

Cool Tats

I myself just got a tattoo 7 yrs ago around my 40th birthday and my dragon is very colorful and I like it very much. My son also has a few and they are very cool too. My wife has a couple. And I have a hole in my ear lobe but it is noitced by the sparkling stud thats in it . Any way I can imagine 420 done in the right font would look very cool. I would get it and now that I think about it I very well might. -- Freedom of expression -- its what this country was all about.

I hope you weren't inferring that I judge people based on tattoos or anything. I don't have any prejudices against people who have them, I just think they look ugly in a cosmetic sense.

However, once in a while, there *are* people who look great with tattoos. This one boy in my poetry class comes to mind... tongue ring, huge tattoos covering his arms... if I were gay, I'd probably bone him.

That's completely off-topic, though... I have to agree with JTP in that if I had a 13-year-old boy, I too would be disappointed to see a 420 tattoo on him. 13 is simply way too young to be smoking weed. I don't condone ANY underage (18 being the cut-off) drug use, but if I personally had a kid, I'd probably tolerate him smoking pot by as young as 16 (so long as it didn't affect his grades or anything important).
