| Pot contraceptives for men? Study finds cannabinoid receptors in sperm by Reverend Damuzi | Cannabis Culture | Oct. 6, 2004 A study published in the September 2001 Fertility and Sterility Journal of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine found that sperm have cannabinoid receptors, and that the body produces cannabinoid-like chemicals which are present in semen and vaginal fluids. Although the study seemed on the verge of explaining why oral sex is so much fun, it instead concluded rather vaguely that, "smoked Marijuana could impact reproductive functions in the male and female." What the study found, in fact, was that a highly specific, laboratory-synthesized endocannabinoid (one of many cannabis chemicals that occur naturally in the body), at doses under or above certain amounts, can cause sperm to speed up or slow down, or can inhibit a sperm's ability to bind with an egg. Funded by the pot-hating US National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the study missed the conclusion that very specialized cannabis extracts might one day provide fun and easy to use contraceptives and fertility drugs. Instead, NIDA hopes to wreck everyone's fun with SR141716, an anti-drug currently under development by French corporation Sanofi-Synthelabo. According to a story published in New Scientist earlier this year, SR141716 is said to block 75% of Marijuana's effects, making it suitable for forced treatment of cannabis users. [Suetaznote: Forced treatment of cannabis users. I assume they mean people caught for possession and are forced into rehab rather than go to jail. This drug could have an adverse effect like it says below. Somehow I'm not surprised that NIDA wouldn't care about adversely effecting someone's fertility.] NIDA researchers don't seem concerned that SR141716 will likely also have an adverse effect on human biological functions, like fertility, which are regulated by naturally occurring cannabis chemicals. [Suetaznote: See also a related article that was previously posted: Marijuana May Impair Male Fertility ]

| Hmmm Phyxius, you may be thinking of the article about the drug that is being proposed over in Europe, which would block the effects of most illegal (and probably some legal) drugs... I don't have the link to the article, but Suetaz probably does ![]() |

| First the French government ticks off American hawks by refusing to support US military actions in the Middle-East. Now doves, or at least smokers, seem to be the target of... "...an anti-drug currently under development by French corporation Sano-Synthelabo...block[s] 75% of Marijuana's effects..." It seems this company is in league with the prohibitionists but it's all about dollars...ur...I mean franks! I'm smoking joe and can I have ketchup with my freedom fries? got a bad case of the munchies... |

| A french enterprise is making the new anti-cannabis drug. They are not making it for the French government. They are making it for the American government. The ENGLISH on the other hand have a government that has proposed giving vaccines against drugs but it was not a formal proposal. Having said that the French government will go against the idea 1. because the English are for it 2. because judges dismiss possession for personal use cases AND DO NOT WASTE GOVT MONEY ON REHAB FOR CANNABIS USERS unless the cannabis users walk in to a clinic and ASK FOR TREATMENT (just like any other drug/alcohol user or gambling addict etc.) 3. Cannabis use here is normalized to the point that yuppie suit and tie professionals often smoke joints in French movies and it is depicted and largely seen as a NORMAL ADULT ACTIVITY 4. I live in France but was born and lived in Chicago for 24 years and I can say that French police do still go after drug dealers but rarely, there are open air "dope blocks" in most towns here (even small ones). There is not, however a WAR ON DRUGS, there is no culture war here. Most people think smoking cannabis (hashish mostly here) is not even a rebellious activity. Our newspapers openly decrie prohibition and demand legalization when the politicians speak on the issue. 5. The right wing law and order type UMP/UDF party recently proposed a phony decrim bill like in Canada but it was laughed at by the press for being phony because it would have allowed the govt to confiscate cars and scooters of people. Judges let it be known that they would not see fit to confiscate property in such a manner and the rule change idea was dropped. 6. To hell with freedom fries I want some chips( UK english for french fries) you didnt expect the english to order french fries did you |

| The implications of this are scary. It's the ultimate assault against freedom. Before it goes any further, the anti-drug zealots should line up, now, to get their lobotomies.

If you need to find an article, they really aren't all that hard to find if you can think of a word that would have been in the article. That's sometimes the hard part, trying to remember! I did a search in the front page forums for "injections" and those two were in the list. It's great news that they are finding more cannabinoid receptors in the human body, but I am sick of the antis' attitudes with their insistance on "blocking" and suppressing etc. and their "Zero Tolerance" crap. If you look 'suppress' up in a Thesaurus, all those synonyms sound just like the government. When will they learn they can't keep people from doing what they want to do? | |
