| Marijuana club ban may be extended November 23, 2004 | trivalleyherald.com | Harald Staff OAKLAND -- The temporary ban on new marijuana clubs in unincorporated areas probably will be extended beyond Dec. 10 so that Alameda County officials can continue developing regulations governing their locations and operations. County supervisors imposed the 45-day ban on Oct. 26. They noted seven medical marijuana dispensaries had opened in Ashland and Cherryland, most of them within the last couple of months, after nearby cities started limiting or banning cannabis clubs. People with doctor-issued cards can buy marijuana at the clubs. On Dec. 14, supervisors likely will extend the ban for an additional 45 days, Supervisor Nate Miley said Monday. The clubs all are located in Miley's Fourth District. If adopted, the new moratorium would extend until Jan. 27. Residents have complained to supervisors about packing so many clinics into one area. Clinic operators and clients said marijuana needs to be available to sick people in their home communities.
