Counterculture Comedian Tommy Chong Enters the Comic Haze of Marijuana-Logues Off-Bway Dec. 7

[News Note: Thanks to Mamabudz for the heads up.]
Tommy Chong, one half of the comedy team of Cheech & Chong, known for their pot-smoking stoner roles in films and concerts, joins Off-Broadway's The Marijuana Logues Dec. 7-19.

Ideal Entertainment Group and Magic Arts & Entertainment present the open-ended run of the comedy at The Actors' Playhouse in Greenwich Village.

Tommy Chong will appear on stage alongside two of the show's creators and original cast members, Doug Benson and Tony Camin. Chong will tour with the show on the West Coast beginning February 2005.

The New York production opened March 30, 2004.

"This production does not glorify drug use," according to the producers. "Rather, it illustrates that cannabis culture is a thing of 'substance,' humor and creativity."

The show offers "stories surrounding the bud," promising that the tales "are as varied as those who indulge."

Cheech & Chong recorded six gold comedy albums, including the 1974 Grammy Award-winning "Los Cochinos," and starred in seven films, most of which Chong co-wrote and directed ("Up in Smoke"). He was most recently seen on Fox's "That 70s Show" in a recurring role.

The Marijuana-Logues is written by Arj Barker, Tony Camin & Doug Benson and directed by Jim Millan.

Performances play Tuesday through Thursday at 8 PM, Friday & Saturday at 8 and 10 PM and Sunday at 4:20 PM. The Actors Playhouse is located at 100 Seventh Avenue South (between Christopher and Bleecker).
