| Cannabis potency realised March 13, 2005 | tamworth.yourguide.com.au | News Staff Zilos-note: Same ol' Crap, different pile. WARREN Woodley, at one point thought he would never give it up. For years, it has been fixated on his mind. But after so many battles, discussions and earfuls of abuse the Tamworth Regional councillor and prominent businessman believes his stance on marijuana has now been proven to be right. Last week a segment that aired on ABC's Four Corners revealed, what Mr Woodley believes has always been the truth. That cannabis abuse prompts mental illness. "Now for the first time a mass media organisation has reported the fact that marijuana can and does cause mental illness, something I have said all along," Mr Woodley said. "I thought after years of banging my head against a brick wall that it had been something that was just brushed under the carpet." "I never thought I would have reason to stop pushing the point but I think it has been finally realised." Throughout the 1990s, Mr Woodley organised rallies and public meetings discussing the side effects of the drug. He started questioning young people who were stuck in the cannabis culture and wanted to get out. "For many of these young druggies, it went from marijuana use which people at that time said was a soft drug to other drugs and eventually heroin." "This led me to believe that it was a stepping stone drug that was not soft but led to psychosis, mental illness and a dependency." "Time and time again I had stoushes with health professionals, psychiatrists and even copped abuse from users and now here is the proof," Mr Woodley said. The ABC report, "Messing With Heads", by Janine Cohen spoke to young cannabis users about their experiences and compared that to new research with comments from doctors and drug specialists. Findings were that one in five young Australians, some as young as 10, smoke cannabis every week and 10 per cent become addicted. Queensland University's Professor Wayne Hall said gone are the trends of people sharing a joint."The pattern we see now is people smoking water bongs, meaning they're getting a much larger dose of the drug."

Notice the use of the drug culture term "copped". Do you suppose Mr. Woodley is a secret toker? From Psychosis, Hype And Baloney Psychotic symptoms were measured using 10 items from something called Symptom Checklist 90. Participants were asked if they had certain ideas, feelings or beliefs that commonly accompany psychotic states. The researchers did not look at actual diagnoses, and the symptom checklist is not identical to the formal diagnostic criteria listed in the DSM-IV manual. Perhaps most important, they only used 10 "representative" items from a much larger questionnaire. It's also well know that people who really have people out to get them have feelings that people are out to get them. Are the thoughts "paranoid" if the US and state governments are actually spending tens of billions of dollars every year to apprehend, prosecute, and imprison pot smokers?

| Zilos is right, just another drug warrior yelling "Marijuana will make you go insane". Some third rate reporter, trying to make a name for himself, says marijuana will bring on psychotic behavior based on his reporting and we're all supposed to believe him. My question is this: Since we all KNOW alcohol can cause mental problems, where are all these "do-gooders of public health" at when a beer or wine commercial is on TV? I'll tell you where they're at....in front of the TV with a cold one. |

| I would like to start out by sayin marijuana and drugs in general are not for everyone but for some it is an uplifting and enhancing experience. For this woodly cat to come out and say that marijuana causes mental illness is ubsurd and utterly ignorant, normally I would call him a stupid arrogant fool with a horses ass for a brain but today he is just ignorant because he has to be to come to a conclusion such as this . And to belive somebody probably payed this ignorant person money to come to this conclusion. If he researched the people he interviewd he would find that a combination of other drugs and marijuana caused this mental illness. **** who am I kiding this man has no self integrety he is a slave to the communist ways of this government. Please think for your self and dont take this crap at face value research and find the truth because Warren Woodly is full of lies and deception. | |

| Now c'mon people be nice. We are all f*cking insane. The lawyers, businessmen, Docs(like me), and lets not forget the Prez, he smoked like a chiminey while in college, well maybe that is a bad example. It's a funny thing, propaganda that is, you through everything, no matter how crazy it sounds, at everyone and then magically an overwhelming pattern of confusion puts the debate so off target that no one can even argue the facts. Just one more point for the opposing-googoo-gaga team. Lets move on.
